A good coach is able to see a player's strength and incorporate it into the system. But a good GM will find good players who can excel in a coach's system.
That's Danny's job, to find players in the draft, in free agency, and in trades, who can flourish in Brad's system.
Coach Brad is a detail oriented guy who demands his players execute the X's and O's -- meaning smart and disciplined players are ideal in his system. Butler went very far without having stars or great athletes. Danny should find this type of players.

We could always draft a guy named Smart? The way things are going it may actually happen. There are a lot of players who fit that this draft Derren. I think you've named them. I've named them. There are a ton of players that fit that mold this draft. I could see us going after McDermott. I could see a lot of the scenarious you've mentioned. I'm still trying to find who and what we actually do though. There is a lot to like and the Celtics are going to have a board come draft time.

I think i'm just going to sit back and enjoy this draft. It is on danny and I have complete faith he will choose the right player. I know he's out there looking at the right guys and knows what he's trying to do.
I hope we draft everyone and trade no one. I'm not sure that will work though.

For instance, I don't think Julius Randle is a smart and disciplined player. Doesn't strike me as a detail oriented player who follows X's and O's carefully. I like Randle and think he's an exciting offensive player -- but maybe he's not a good fit for Coach Brad.
I watched Vonleh last night on a game I DVR'd. Maybe it's because he's just a freshmen, but I don't know -- this guy seems a bit aloof. Not the sharpest tool in the shed. A bit clumsy. You won't see it in his highlight videos.

I agree on vonleh. he is 18 though. But his iq is the same question to me right now. But long term he could be a beast.

I think Gordon is probably the best attitude guy at 6. Smart has a bit of an ego. Might be well intended and right on for how good he is though. Vonleh can't pass and has hitches in his game right now and is a project.
I haven't watched McDermott. But I've read the guys you like and they seem to be in sync with those types of players. I get what you are seeing in those players. They make sense. Hayward, McDermott, Affalo etc. I like these guys too. I think they'd fit.
The players that are intriguing me now are some of the guys way down the board who are off peoples radars. Potential later picks. We have phil pressey but taking a flier on chaz Williams im not so sure. these guys need to go places where they get a chance to develop.

Smart, if he's a PG, will be more appealing to me in Brad's system. But if he's a SG, I don't care for it. It could be that he's the eventual replacement for Rondo.
But Smart seems to me to be a PG who can flourish under Coach Brad. Smart isn't a dominant PG, he's not a franchise player, but he can defend, he can pass (not great, but adequate), can drive, can shoot, and has a positive personality.
I'm not a fan of Smart individually, but as a player in Coach's system, I dig him.

I think the players we've worked out are all good in ways. That's the problem and what I'm trying to determine. Im not sure if I really like Levine or don't. He was a great skillset though and is a scorer. This draft is so loaded that way its really hard to choose for me. There are other shooters I like more than Levine. Stauskis and Harris have been getting love where Levine is under the radar a bit.

I haven't watched highlights of Levine for a bit. He looked out of control a bit but really good potential shooter and scorer. These guys are young. I may go watch some Levine highlights.

LaVine reminds me of Gerald Green. Tons of athleticism, not so much above the head.
May have to pass on a guy like this. High ceiling but also a low floor (bust potential).

I see that comparison I'm not sure I buy it though. Some players need to develop and are overlooked that way. Levine could be a nice sleeper. A lot of people are all over McDermott and stauskis on first inspection that way but there are sleepers in this draft.

This is the main reason why RC Buford has been one of the top (say 3) GMs of the last decade. He drafts players that fits Pops system.
If BOS keeps the selection, I expect Danny to draft a player that has:
>a high basketball IQ >knowledge of defense
