Carmelo to Miami? Lebron, Wade, Bosh opting out and taking big pay cuts?
I hope not.

I would be shocked if this happened. They would have to give up tens of millions of dollars to make it happen. Aint no way they agree to do that. Remember, just a couple of months ago LeBron was lamenting about how little premier NBA players make as opposed to premier MLB talent(this was around the time Miggy signed that monster deal). Lebron knows what he's worth.

I think this is why the Celtics need to be aggressive. We don't even know if we can add these guys ourselves. I wouldn't put this past the heat. Ray Allen can still play for a while though it seems like. I'm also not sure if there is any such thing as having too much talent. That 2002 fiba team that didn't stay together and the team went on to lose the Olympics comes to mind.
LeBron might be a jerk but I don' tthink he's overly stupid. I think he recognizes his worth and that players want to play with him. A lot of these guys have so much money they don't care about that. I don't think LeBron is this unselfish good guy for being that way either. It's an ego thing for him. If he can stick it to the league and win championships and add a player and take less money I think he would.
LeBron gets so many endorsements and makes money in other ways where his contract is just part of that. I don't think he'd play for free. But he'd sure try to make it seem that way if we can fit it in under certain conditions.
I think more importantly the Celtics need to concentrate on what they are trying to do because it's a dog eat dog world out there. LeBron may very well be a nice guy but he'd also kill another person if it's in his best interest. I'm not sure I consider that being a nice guy. He's more selfish to unprecedented levels. Players like him make so much money he can afford to do that.
Would LeBron go out of his way to get other people championships? Maybe but I more think he'd do it for himself.
Bill Russell goal was to win and he felt he was the best player. Nothing wrong with that. I tend to think Russell was a different person though. His one goal was to win and he felt he was the best player. Same thing. But different personality and time.

For the Celtics to succeed we need to be the same way in ways. We don't have to be LeBron or any of that. But we do need to do what is in our b est interest and get the players we need to win ultimately. Not necessarily at all costs either. We just need to do what is best for us. If that means getting a guy like melo then do that. If it means we have to wait a bit and build from within then same thing. The heat aren't unbeatable I know this much. They are human like everyone else and so is LeBron.
This is where I think people have it overly wrong though. The Celtics can't be overly cocky themselves and think stuff like this never will happen. It could happen. It doesn't mean LeBron is unbeatable though or the best. His team is right now and won and I think that needs to be recognized. If I were to sit here and say the spurs won last year that would be crazy. It doesn't mean I have to like the heat either or think they are better than me.
Russell felt he was thebest player. He felt he should win every game. Sometimes you don't. That happens and is life. Circumstance or whatever.
IF that does happen I will say one thing. It would be fun to beat them and gives us more incentive to do so.

I think this is why the Celtics need to be aggressive. I think if anything these super teams should provide us the impetus to do a traditional rebuild through the draft. If we try to compete for max-level FAs with New York, LA, and Miami we will lose. And since this Miami team has peaked, the only two teams to take them to a game seven are the Pacers and the Spurs, two teams that were built primarily through the draft. If we had a player of Paul Pierce's caliber on the roster I might think differently, but I don't see Rondo as that type of player.

I agree. I meant that both ways when I said it. It's funny fresh because you always pick out the one thing I say that i'm like should I edit that because I know someone is going to pick it out. But just aggressively doing what we need to do which means looking at free agents and every scenario and the draft and just trying to make the right decisions and being objective and subjective about it.
Even if we go the draft route we still should be out there trying to win games imo and building something. Duncan won a championship as a rookie I think and it's not necessarily all about the draft. I still think having vets is possible.
Even if the heat get melo I still don't think they are unbeatable if we go out there with that attitude. WE had a rough year last year but still managed to beat them pretty good. I'm not throwing in the towel on this team.
