If we draft Vonleh, just like what it'll mean if we draft Julius Randle, means a crowded frontcourt with lots of young talent who are out to beat out the next guy for playing minutes.
If Vonleh is our pick, it means Danny values Vonleh's post defense over Randle's explosive scoring and Gordon's athleticism and defense.
Ainge hinted at improving our rim protection, which Randle doesn't do as well as Vonleh. Gordon is a rim protector too, because he'll make it hard on wing players to get to the rim, but Vonleh is a better post defender because he's taller and longer, and has a stronger base than Gordon.
If its overall defense that Ainge is after, I believe Gordon will be the pick. But if Vonleh is a Celtic on draft day, it signifies that Ainge and Brad want to shore up our interior defense.

I think of Vonleh as part of the front court trio, which includes Sully and KO that will command minutes at the PF/C and not any one of them at SF position. Interior defense was a huge liability for BOS this year, right next to a go to scorer towards the end of the 4th quarter.

I think it may also mean that the brass believes that Vonleh is not done growing yet. He is still super young.

If we draft Vonleh it's because DA thinks he can play center at the NBA. I can't see DA drafting another PF. 3 PF in the past three drafts isnt a good strategy especially when there are going to be other really talented guys on the board like Smart Saric and Gordon when the Celtics pick.

I would agree with that nateval. If Vonleh is a 10 ppg, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks and plays aggressive in the middle that's what we want. he's so skinny though but those bill Russell type qualities if you project what vonleh is statistically in the nba.
The question to me is more how he will grow. Is he going to grow as a scorer and be more a pf? Or is he going to grow as an enforcer in the paint with his rebounding and defense.
The way he plays offensively is very reminiscent of chris bosh with better defense. I don't think he is a center and defensive enforcer. He's a more offensively geared player. But it's college.
