He's out with shin splints. I had friends who had shin splints and they were in pain anytime they'd run. I can imagine how much it would hurt a guy who relies so much on speed as part of his game.
6 weeks is a huge amount of time. This is going to knock Banks out of competition and make it hard for him to get back into the rotation. Because he needs to stay off of his legs, his conditioning will take a hit, and of course, his basketball timing is going to take a hit. We start the season in 2 weeks, and he'll be back a month after that.
Will this prompt Ainge to make a move to get a veteran backup PG? Orien is not ready to be a backup yet, and DIckau and Delonte are still trying to get their games on track.

I think Greene will be fine as the number three PG. We need this to push DD and DW to the next level, were OG is only needed for short stints.
See why Davis and Pierce have seen time at point? Like RD last season...

This really isnt a setback banks needed I know some people aren't that high on him, but we really could have used a lock down defender at the 1. I just dont see DD or DW being that...

UPDATE: Banks at least out for 3 months! Basicly, he's gone for the season..
I have a bad feeling about the PG spot on our team. I was nor ever will be a big fan of Dickau, West has never convinced me he can be a decent PG, Orien & Bynum are NBDL material for the moment. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think that as of now, we have the WORSE pg situation of all 28/29 teams..
Houston, we have a serious problem...

i kind of feel the same. i think that both dickau and west can hold down the fort but it remains to be seen how big a liability they will be

Correct. That's why its a big wish of mine for Ainge to get us a PG who can run a championship team. Delonte is a nice PG who does a lot of the little things on the court. But he doesn't create easy shots for teammates, which is important for us instead of clawing for every point. I'll give Dickau more time to prove his worth because I do see some real abilities in his game.
Banks also has the ability to become a really good PG, but he's got to change his game a lot for that to happen. With him, if he's not attacking the basket, he's lost.
We'll need to see a lot more of Orien Greene before we can say anything.
But as of right now, we are in need of someone breaking out. If not, we need to make a trade. We have talent at the wings, and we have Perkins and Jefferson down low. We don't have anyone to really take over at PG.
I also think Banks is going to be out for the rest of the season. Earliest he says he'll be back is in 3 months. But that's when he gets re-evaluated. If he's deemed ready to return to basketball, he'll need to get back into condition, and then fight for a spot. Best thing for Banks is to take the year off and just watch old videos of PG legends who play similar to him, such as Isaiah Thomas and Kevin Johnson.

We might see RD and/or PP at point, more than expected. 10-15 mins a game, combined.

I really don't understand what Rivers is trying to accomplish by playing Ricky at the Point. He's not a good ball handler and he'll be a turnover machine trying to be the PG. Granted, he does rack up a fair amount of assists for a wing player. But that's from him looking to score, attacking the basket and finding an open teammate. To use him in this matter if fine with me. But asking him to be a PG who's main job is to direct the offense bothers me.

Just say 'no' to P2 at the PG. The year before last year, P2 handled the ball alot, and his turnovers were abnormally high. Last year, the ball was out of his hands more, and his turnovers were the same or less.

I'm not sure who is available via trade. I did read somewhere that we were 7-1 in games Delonte started last year, so hopefully Paul and Ricky can help him bring the ball up court vs pressure and we can distribute the ball as a team and get by without a grade-A point guard. At least Delonte has a good enough J to stretch the defense.

Delonte is going to turn out to be a nice PG. I don't see him being a guy we have to worry about. But at the same token, he's not a guy whom I feel will average a big amount of assists. He's not a creative PG--just a backcourt player who makes the right passes and hits shots from all over the court.
Dickau is probably a better overall PG as in leading a team and I hope he can show more than he has soon.

On my first looksee last night, PG play will be the issue that holds this team back.
No offense to speak of in the 2nd or 4th qtrs.
Over 20 turnovers.
DD can play better but the team will not be a good defensive team with him at the point.
Couldn't help but notice Wallace sitting next to Ainge on the 1st row of the baseline last night.
I still cannot believe we took Joe Forte over Tony Parker in the 2001 draft (AAARRRGGHHH).
Orien Green might be the starting PG by the end of the season for all we know.

Never dwell on the past. Every draft, hindsight 20-20. However, I am disapointed in Forte. Thought he was going to be a stud.
