I know this may not seem like the right time to be talking about this--well, with Blount having a resurgence and playing the way he should be. I mean, good big men are scarce and right now, Blount is providing a good scoring hand, which, if anything, can be a useful weapon off the bench.
But here's the thing--Blount's stock may be at its highest point right now. With the way he's playing and how effective he is scoring the ball, teams may be willing to overpay a bit for him.
I'm still a bit skeptical about Blount. He's a moody player who plays according to how he feels--and right now, he's happy. But what happens when we go on losing streaks? This is a young team with a lot of new players trying to find their roles. This season is going to be a bumpy road and he may not remain happy throughout the season like he is right now. What happens when Perkins starts eating away at his minutes? Perkins is our best rebounder right now--Blount is half the rebounder Perkins is. Young teams need consistent rebounding to help stabilize the game because other aspects of the game will be lacking. As Perkins progresses, and learns to keep his ticky tack fouls in check, he could amass 20 minutes per game off the bench. If he, Jefferson, and Raef are playing big minutes, Blount may not see as many. Will he still be a happy camper when this happens?
I must admit that I am pleasantly surprised with Blount's scoring. It is nice to have an additional scoring option aside from Pierce and Davis, to help spread the offense around. But I do feel like the bad and moody Blount, who has plagued this team and the lockerroom in the past, has a chance of resurfacing again, and I'd rather move him before that part of him rises.
