After watching the first three preseason games i have to say he was one hell of a pickup so late in the second round. I had seen him play at Providence College. I live in Rhode Island and get to see PC games every year. He was one heck of player at PC but i felt he was undersized to play in the pros. He is 6'7" but in college played PF. Last year he lost weight and started to play more in the perimeter. His team had a disapointing season and he lost alot of the draft buzz that surrounded him the previous year. i am glad we drafted this kid he is one hell of a player. He does the little things like keeping the ball alive to get another shot, coming up with key rebounds, can score with his back to the basket etc. He is very solid He went against Charlie Villanueva the other night and scored 18 and grabbed 6 rebounds. Now Charlie was the seventh overall pick and Gomes was the 50th that says a lot about this guy. I think he should start becaue of his offensive rebounding alone.

Yeah, I don't think there's any Celtic fan who's disappointed with Ainge for taking Gomes at 50. I'm on record as saying that I would not have wanted Ainge to pick him up at 18, because there were probably going to be players with a lot more potential than Gomes at that spot (I said this before the draft). If I had to take between Gerald Green and Ryan Gomes at 18, I'd definitely take Green.
But I had no problems with taking Gomes with a later pick (as in a second round pick), and what an enormous steal he is turning out to be. Doc must feel the same way because he's giving Gomes a lot of playing time already (played the most minutes on the team last night vs. the Bulls). Not only can Gomes bring scoring to the table, but he's also a solid rebounder at SF.
He is quickly becoming a guy we need to include in our "core players" list.

No doubt. This kid fits into the NBA style of play. He might be in the lead for a starting role. Then we have Reed and/or Tony it come in if we want more lock-down defense.
The problem being... We are too deep at the wing. Good problem. ;D Someone might need to be moved (not saying it would need to be one of these 3).
This might be part of the reason they are trying PP and RD at the point. That and the PG position is a bit off... West and Dan should find the grove soon.

This is quite a difficult situation Ainge and Rivers will be in, in a few years. Pierce, Ricky, Green, Gomes, Reed, and Allen (I'll leave Delonte out of this one because he can always play PG). Out of these 6 wing men, Pierce, Ricky, Green, and Gomes are surefire starters--while Reed and Tony Allen can be viewed as borderline starters (it pains me to say that about Allen).
Green is the most talented and has the highest potential, so I'm penciling him in as a future starter. So who plays opposite of Green?
Pierce Green
Ricky Green
Gomes Green
Which of these wing combination sounds the best?

A lot of this depends on our PG and the need for defense.

Pierce Green Ricky Green Gomes Green Which of these wing combination sounds the best? I think that the Green/Gomes combo sounds AWESOME. Gomes is a helluva basketball player, and I just finally decided that after he dropped 18 and 6 against the 7th overall pick. With him and GG as the wing combo, and BigAl and Perk as the Big men, and also with Delonte or maybe OrienG running the point. This team would be AWESOME. God I'm so damn excited for the future. (I know ive posted these possible future roster millions of times before, but I'm so excited I've gotta do it again!) Perkins (10 ppg 12 rpg 3 bpg) Jefferson (24 ppg 13 rpg 2 bpg) Gomes (16 ppg 7 rpg 3 apg) Green (22 ppg 5 rpg 5 apg) West (14 ppg 7 apg 2 spg) *the text in between the () is there possible stats for the future* 2nd unit Blount (I like what I'm hearing about him, so I'll pencil him here) Scalabraine Reed (I love this guy!) Allen/Davis Greene THIS TEAM'S FUTURE IS SO BRIGHT, THEY GOTTA WEAR SHADES

Gomes was tagged w/ the undersized label. Fortunately for us, Danny disregarded the critics. Great addition to the team. For this year, I like Gomes on the second unit, because he can score.
By the way, what is the definition of a wing player? Is that a player that can play both the SF, and SG?

Yeah, a wing player is defined as the SF and SG positions.
E-Mac, don't worry about it. I must have posted a ton of those future lineups with whom I think will be the main players. I like Jefferson at PF and Gerald Green at either SF or SG. I'm not real confident in Delonte/Orien and Perkins being our PG and C, respectively. They are nice players, but they have their limitations (Delonte is not enough of a playmaker to get players easier shots, and Perkins doesn't have enough explosiveness to be a top notch defensive player). Gomes does have the makings of being a real solid contributor who does what is needed. Not a superstar-type, but the type of player good teams have.
I think we should try to move a few of our young pieces to get ourselves a top notch PG, and try our best to land Jeff Oden in the 2007 draft. From all indications, he's got potential to dominate defensively. We need big time difference makers to be a dynasty.

we don't have a decent starting pg just yet.
and where's pp? if he's not on your lists then put some fancy name behind c or pg slots instead of him
