NBA considering changes to the game in the future. espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/10517078/nba-weighing-expanded-court-4-point-shotOf course this is just speculation and I'm sure it will never be seriously considered, but I have been an advocate for widening the court for ages. I'm pretty sure I made a post regarding this ages ago, but I am far too lazy to find it. We've had pretty much the same court dimensions since the 40s. Compare a player from the 1940s to a player in today's game. They don't even look to be the same species. Today's NBA player is longer, taller, and much more athletic than your typical baller of days gone by. If we widened the court it would increase offensive spacing so much more. It would give post players much more room to operate and it would make fast breaks that much more deadly. If the NBA wants to increase the speed and offensive production of the game, this would be the way to go. Personally I would much prefer this over the banning of hand-checking. Widening the court would also move the corner 3 back and make 3 point distance much more uniform.

Is A Walker coming back for the 4-point attempts?

4 point shots remind of back in the 90s when MTV had rock 'n' jock and each year they'd have a celebrity basketball game and there were spots on the court for 4-pointers, 5-pointers, 6-pointers, etc.

Added Thorn: "Those seats that are very close to the court are obviously very expensive seats to start out with. And most of them come right up to the floor. So when you start extending the floor, sideways or length -- you could probably extend it lengthwise easier than you can sideways. So there are a lot of things you have to look at there."
Quotes like these make me wonder if they'll ever add changes that would benefit the game as opposed to benefit them making more money. Kind of like the NFL wanting to add more playoff teams and claiming that it would be good for the game when it's mostly just for more revenue. I actually like the idea of widening the court. I don't think the location of the most expensive seats should come into play when discussing it though. Makes sense too when you consider, like you said, it'd make the length of the 3 point line more uniform.

They would still have the courtside seats, it would be the last row or two before the stadium-style seating begins that they would lose. Those are definitely primo seats so it will be a tough sell. I am convinced though that it would improve the game.

Forget about widening the court -- how about shortening the players?

Are you suggesting removing the players' shins, DM? It may work, but you'd have an awful hard time selling it to the Players' Union.

Yea I think the 4 pointer idea is not a very good one. I wouldn't mind if they made any shot made farther than half-court 4 points. Would be a minimal change. But adding a line seems like too much.

get rid of steroids. problem solved. I am a basketball purist. The nfl keeps changing rules to to cater to the players and pretty soon it's not going to even be basketball or football. MLB did the same stuff with moving the fences in and lowering the mound for more offense. NFL offenses this past year were way above league averages of years past and it's just not as impressive to me when players get the yardage they do.
I can agree with fresh that healthcare or genetics is playing a part, but I wonder how much of it has to do with steroids.
This is an issue to me when people are selling out like that. Looking for the easy fix instead of the difficult one.

I honestly don't even know what the NBA tests for as you barely hear anything drug related unless it involves marijuana.
As far as I know, the NBA uses urine tests, not blood tests. Therefore, HGH (or even blood doping) use could be really prevalent in the NBA.
