I'm the proud owner of a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville. This summer will mark the 10 year anniversery of when I bought. It is the best. Has over 160k on it I haven't had to put any significant money into it yet. It was a dark day when GM discontiunued the Pontiac line.

Right now, it isn't bad. I've seen it around $3.99 at some Chevrons. Most times its well above $4 -- like maybe $4.25.
Milk and eggs are also expensive here, compared to the mainland.

$3.99 a gallon correct? i believe you guys over there still use the imperial system of measurement. $3.99 USD = 1 gallon over here its $2.11 NZD = 1 litre 1 gallon = 3.78 litres therefore $7.97NZD = 1 gallon given the currency exchange rates the final tally is....... $6.59 USD for 1 gallon of gas over here in New Zealand Now dont you feel lucky your gas prices are dirt cheap compared to ours?

Yeah, my wife is from Japan and they also use liters, not gallons. Gasoline prices are high there too.

Ours has been dropping a bit lately. Some stations are showing $3.09 a gallon.

Still driving my 2007 Mazda3. Runs like a top with 122,000+ miles, but starting to rust apart here in Maine. I'll find out in a few weeks how much it's going to cost me to pass inspection. I know I need rear brakes. I need new tires unless I want to run the snows all year. And I may need new rocker panels. I love this car and don't want to move on, but at some point it will be time.

I drive a 1996 Geo Prizm so I understand your sentiment on eventually needing to move on. It's really just a Toyota Corolla engine which is why I love it cause it's so damn reliable and I have to do something stupid to really cause it issues.
It was my first car and I was forced to give it up solely because of rust about 3 years ago. Being as stubborn as I am I simply looked for another one (I already had winter tires and some spare parts). I bought one off an older man in PA who no longer had his license who had only put 54,000 miles on a 20 year old car...and it had not a speck of rust on it in the undercarriage. Crazy. I've put 50,000 miles in 3 years on it and no issues whatsoever (and still no rust underneath!).
Bought a $20 bluetooth adapter and some heated seat covers and I pretend it has all the bells and whistles of newer cars for $20,000 less. Cheap insurance, cheap oil changes (that I can do myself), and I already know how to spot certain issues and fix them. The one major concern I will concede will have to be safety (good thing the car drives slow then).

That is....without a doubt....one of the single most interesting, if not best, car stories I have ever done heard in my life

Dude....the new Mazda 3 has a compression engine like a diesel.....with regular gas. Incredible gas mileage. Give it maybe two years to perfect the tech. Then maybe buy one new. Orrr....give it four years and buy a certified pre owned one.

Yeah, I've kinda been waiting for that new Mazda3 to come out. From what I read it'll have more power as well as better MPG, and be quieter as well.
