Very premature to be thinking of this, but a good way to keep my Celtics vibe going during these final few days before the offseason concludes.
--if Jefferson pans out and is a star caliber PF --if Gerald Green fulfills his potential and becomes a star --if Delonte turns out to be the perfect PG for our system --if Tony Allen (SG), Ryan Gomes (SF/PF), Marcus Banks (PG), and Kendrick Perkins (C) all turn out to be high quality role players ......................
what area does Ainge need to target to put us over the hump to give us a shot at the title?

Dominant center. A guy who can rebound and defend like nobody's business. A towel waving human victory cigar, like ML Carr back in the day.

We need to find out about these 'ifs' this season before we will know what needs to be done. We need to know if AJ is going to be a Waymen Tisdale type of something more. We need to know if Green is going to be a guy we can consider a future all-star. We need to find out if Allen and Perkins are going to starting material in this league. Unfortunately, this may take more than one year. These next couple of years will be the time that Ainge's legacy will be decided by. He must decide which guys are part of the future, and how much we are willing to pay them. Or if they are not part of the plan, he must trade them while they still have some value. So far he has succeeded(Jiri) and failed(Blount) in these regards.

These "ifs" are hypothetical. Lets just imagine that these "ifs" come to fruition. It just a way to look over the horizon and plan our next move.

Id say we need some kind of veteran leadership. A guy like a robert horry would be nice, guys who know how to win. We need guys in the playoffs who understand that the little things count, like the value of every possesion, screening, blocking out on defensive rebounds, shot selection. Little things win playoff series. I hope the young guys learned a valuable lesson last year, the better team on paper dosent always win.
go celtics!!!!!!!

I would add Perkins to the list of ifs... If he can keep his fouls in check, he could be a solid starter, rather than a solid bench player.

Yea, Danny so far got rid of Brandon Hunter and Jiri for young guys. This makes us think as fans that all these other guys Danny drafted are secure for awhile like Reed, Gomes and Perkins but sooner or later, its gonna come down to just 3 of those 9 young guys. Jefferson, Green and not West, someone else from antoher draft probably.

I have a gut feeling that says no.

Stick a finger down your throw-hole... I think there's something in your gut that's rancid. ;D

No, its just a possible scenario and gut feeling of mine that says both may not be here in 3 years.

Seeing how we have little depth at Center, especially talented young Centers, I feel that Perkins will be here. He's progressing steadily and despite looking awkward in many areas of his game, he looks pretty natural when he's rebounding.
Like I said, I don't know if he'll be a starter for us down the line, but he can certainly be a quality backup for defensive purposes if he keeps progressing the way he is.

Its just a gut feeling I have. Thats all. It doesn't mean I don't want him in Boston.
