I think he can. If you consider the Spurs' third recent championship as a border-line dynasty, they just won with Nazr Mohamed at center, and I think Perkins has more upside, and AJ could become a superstar at power forward. He had enough bright moments last year (double figure rebounds off the bench vs NY, 5 blocks off the bench vs Chicago, another 7 rebound 3 block effort vs Chicago, defending O'Neal well and blocking his shot vs Indiana, coming in along with AJ and turning the tide vs Philly when we were down 20 after one quarter) that I believe he can be a poor-man's Ben Wallace (top ten rebounder and shot blocker, though he may be in the bottom half of the top ten instead of the top like Wallace).

Perkins will be better than Erick Dampier. For reasons such as caring about not just money and maybe more hustle play.

actually he seems to have more upside than ben wallace had at that age Hey wasn't I trying to say that before??? I believe I was. Wallace was out of college (not HS like Perkins) in his first year in the league but got little time and not so great numbers. Now hes kind of old now that hes been a top defensive player for 5 seasons or so because he came around later. I say Perkins can possibly be that type of player.

I think Perkins is our future starting center. Some people may think we'd be better off with going after Greg Oden, but I don't think we need him as our starting center for this team to dominate in the future. Plus I don't think even PP could reel in Oden from whoever has the top pick in 07. I see a lot of Ben Wallace in Perkins and I think that he could be maybe even better than him. I think that this lineup, with perkins as the center and not oden, could very well help us be a dynasty in the next 3-4 years:
West Green Reed (for situations when D is needed)/Gomes (for situations when O is needed) Jefferson Perkins
Greene Allen (sixth man) Reed/Gomes ?Scalabraine? ?Blount?/draft pick in 06 or 07 (Paul Davis anyone??)
I think that that team right there is capable of dominating in the future, with Jefferson and Green being out top players. Thoughts?

Its hard to say if that team could make a dynasty. They may have to add just 1 more guy to the mix (clevelands pick in 07 perhaps).

Thanks for taking the time to look up some of his stats, Mev. I'd like to believe that Perkins is a poor man's Ben Wallace, but his numbers are a bit inflated because he wasn't playing against starters for the most part.
I look at Perkins and see a guy with potential to be a solid player, but not sure if he has enough potential to be a difference maker on a dynasty team. I view a dynasty as a team who wins 2 - 3 (or more) championships in a 4 - 5 year span. While I think Perkins has the ability to be a starting Center for a playoff team, I'm still contemplating if he has enough goods to be a starting Center on a contending team. In the playoffs (as well as throughout the season), you don't give up easy shots. You make players earn their points and you make it especially difficult for teams to get easy buckets in the paint. Perkins may be a good individual defender, but I don't get the feeling from watching him that he can be a stellar help defender on a consistent basis. His lack of quick lateral movements and explosiveness seems to prevent him from moving from one side of the paint to the other side of the paint quick enough to help the weak side consistently.
Now, this may have been the same apparent dilemma that naysayers had to say about a young Robert Parish. I'd probably have said the exact same things about Parish as I've just said about Perkins upon first look.

I think Parrish was labeled as a lazy player during his golden state years.

This is a true tough call. So are most of our young guys though. What if Perkins is the one Danny moves and not Reed or Banks? Who the hell knows what will go on.

I think Parrish was labeled as a lazy player during his golden state years. Then he (or Red) made his way to the right system and combination players. ;D Perk will be solid, he's like a puppy learning not stumble,,, due to the speed of the game and steady foot-work. He'll catch on.

Its so hard to say at this point which one of the young guys will be going. I can put my money on Reed for our 2nd rd guys. And for a first round pick, Allen.
