I just read an arcticle in Pro Basketball News, that cited Doc as saying Paul will be moved to shooting guard duties. Even though Paul will eat up the 2 Guards, his rebounding will be affected. But then again Gomes is a rebounding beast ! so, what do you guys think ?

Its way too early for Doc to be seriously planning out his roster positioning. I can understand him wanting to move Pierce to SG because we have some pretty good looking prospects at SF (Gerald Green, Ryan Gomes, Justin Reed). But at SG we have Ricky and Tony Allen, guys who are much quicker and explosive (IMO, SG's should be faster and quicker than SF's).
I'd be a bit cautious of putting both Pierce and Gomes in the starting lineup. It appears to be a slower lineup.

Yea ! I agree with you, about Paul not being quick enough ! I think that from what I've seen of Gomes, he is quick enogh for that "Power 3" position. That position will revolutionize the offense! It will also help out on the defensive end. It will add power and speed at the same time, to the game ! The SG, should be explosive, quick and exceptional with their ballhandling. I DON't think, paul " fits the Bill" !!!!! But I would want Gomes at that "Power 3" though !

If Paul can handle defending the quicker 2's of the league, it'll work. He can totally man-handle 2-guards in the post. Maybe this could usher in the 25ppg Paul we saw when he played the 2 with Eric WIlliams at the 3.

Sure, if you want a big lineup and want to control the halfcourt game, Gomes and Pierce at the 3 and 2 spots makes lots of sense. Both are adept at going inside out, both are solid rebounders, both have meat on their bones to push guys around, etc.

As the season moves along, I really think we will start to see a lot of Pierce and Gomes on the floor together. All of the buzz and excitement by management regarding Gomes reminds me a lot of Pierce's rookie year in training camp when management had a quiet excitement about him, almost like a secret weapon. I'm not saying Gomes will be as good as Pierce, or even that he was as good a steal as Pierce, but to get him at 50 is amazing, and the buzz is certainly there. Gomes is exactly what Ainge and Doc want in their "3".
I remember when I watched the draft, I was hoping for Blatchay, and when he was picked before the C's, I was pissed. Then the next pick came in about 30 seconds, and I'm like ?? They must have really liked someone a lot to select this fast. When Granik said Ryan Gomes, I couldn't even believe he was still there. I had taken a break from the draft after Gerald Green, and just figured he would have been gone by then.
Definitely a great pick that low in the draft. He will get more minutes than people think. I put him above Reed on the depth chart due to his versatility and b-ball IQ.

If this were to be true, PP and Reed would be the mix. Better D @ 2/3 . Or Gomes at 3 and Reed 4 / PP 2 before being traded in Feb.

I feel the starting lineup looks good with Gomes and Pierce as long as they switch Pierce to sf within the next 2 substitutions to free many minutes for Ricky and Allen. It can work that way. Pierce may have to start at the 2 but play at the 3 when they get a faster lineup on the floor. Maybe their plan is to start the game with a good halfcourt lineup then push the ball later in the game with different rotations. Who knows.

C17, if anything, Gomes plays the 4, Reed plays the 3, and Pierce plays the 2. Gomes looks to be able to handle the PF spot better than Reed because he naturally has a bigger body.
Esco, Gomes is similar to Pierce in other ways too. I find their games and body type eerily similar.
Prior to the draft, I read that Ainge was high on Gomes (brought him in for workouts last year, and a couple of times this year), but I was hoping he was not going to be our pick at 18. I did not feel that Gomes' potential was as high as some of the other players I was hoping to get with that pick. But using a second round pick to get him was total good fortune. Here's a guy Ainge would have used the 18th pick for, but instead he gets a guy who deserved to be picked in the top 6 with the 18th, and he still ends up drafting the player he wanted at 18, at 50. That's just too incredible to fathom.

Its too good to be true. This means that these players should totally live up to their potential. If one doesn't, the other one surely will.

I thought Pierce played SG for the most part last season while Allen and Davis played the SF? To tell you the truth there really wasn't any significant difference between these to positions since we didn't have the personal to run a big SF. So, Doc pretty much played 3 guards for 48 mins a game.

Right JHVOS and some of our best games were when the small line-up played most of the game.

I would rather play a good player out of position than a bad player in the right position. Sometimes you just gotta let the best players play. It's not that hard a game to figure out
