I don't post on my other team's blogs or message boards, so I'll just post my thoughts here.
First I'll talk about my Miami Dolphins. I've been a fan since the tail end of the Marino era (early ~ mid 90's) and we've been pretty bad all those years I've been following them (there were playoff teams sprinkled in here and there, but no where close to having a chance of winning the SB). After years of going through different QB's, both through drafts, trades, free agency, it appears we've finally landed our franchise quarterback. Ryan Tannehill is quickly showing Miami fans that he has the potential to be an All-Pro QB for years to come. He's got the smarts, the arm strength, the touch, the poise, the intangibles -- all he needs is more seasoning.
We are 1 - 3 so far this season, but I could care less about the W-L record. I just want to see continued growth from our young franchise QB -- and in time management will surround him with talented skill players so that we can contend.
Next, my Baltimore Orioles are in the playoffs. I still cannot believe we cracked the 90 win mark, and are currently sitting at 92 wins with 3 games to go. I've grown accustomed to losing seasons, so it feels so different cheering for them in October. But even if we are ousted in the opening series, I will consider this season a special one.
And the great thing is we are expecting greater things. We finally have a core of good players who will be here for awhile, rather than assembling parts every year. We have Wieters at Catcher (gold glove caliber, good power and RBI guy), Mark Reynolds at 1B (who has been playing like a gold glover, and has 40 homerun power), JJ Hardy at SS (another gold glove caliber player who can hit 20+ homers), Manny Machado at 3B (20 year old who has solidified our infield defense at 3B, and has a promising bat), Nick Markakis at RF (solid glove, good RBI producers), and Adam Jones at CF (another gold glover who can hit 25+ homers).
And talk about pitching, we have the young stud Dylan Bundy on his way to the big leagues very soon (top prospect in all of baseball), and a handful of other young prospects who will join our cast of solid pitchers we currently have.
Its just amazing the turn around we've faced this past year, and it will only get better from this point on.
I've finally got a reason to cheer for my Dolphins and my O's, after all these depressing years.
