The same guy who writes for NBADraft (that Amico guy), writes that 3 inside sources (whatever that means nowadays) have confirmed that the Clippers have called Ainge, inquiring about Pierce this week.
If you think about the scenario, they did lose Bobby Simmons without giving much of a fight, despite Simmons being a real diamond in the rough.
Who do they have that they'd have to give up in order to get Pierce? Elton Brand? (yeah, but we already have Big Al Jefferson). Corey Maggette? (why would they trade Maggette just to get back Pierce?). Shaun Livingston? Ding, ding, ding!! And we have a winner, folks.
But I find it hard to believe that the Clippers would part with their future PG just to get Pierce. They are still trying to work on keeping Marco Jaric, so if they trade Livington, their PG situation appears dicey.
So then, you'd have to think that they'd want a PG back if they're losing Livingston. We have Delonte, Banks, and Orien Greene. I'm sure Ainge would trade any one of those 3 to get a 6'6", Penny-Hardaway like PG, whom he thought was the best PG prospect in the draft of '04. But certainly, if we give up Pierce and one of them, we'd have to get back a lot more than just Shaun Livingston. And aside from him, they only have Brand and Maggette, neither of whom makes sense.
First round draft picks may be nice, but the Clippers aren't so bad these days so they won't get us a very high pick. Still lottery bound, but I want a chance to get the #1 overall pick.

I still feel bad about the fact that Pierce, is involved in any trade rumors. But the fact remains that, he Has got to "GET IT"! I will never forget the way I felt on Draft night when Paul fell all the way to 10 - just how I felt when Green fell to 18 ! It was truly special! I too would hope that he is still around (in the right frame of mind) to "gel"and grow with the "YOUNG GUNS". If not then I would gladly accept Corey and Livingston......

Id do a backflip if we could score maggette and livingston. Id throw in any combo of banks, delonte, and a future #1 that it took.

Livingston is definitely tempting, but I definitely have an interest in Brand. Hell, I would give up Big Al for Brand. Now he is a proven player. Throw in Maggette and Livingston and Pierce and Banks/West/Blount on our side and we have a deal..obviously this would never happen, but in terms of salaries, it makes the most sense.

I would want Brand as long as it didnt take Big Al to get him. It would take Pierce and Scalabrine and a future 1st rd pick and a 2nd rounder also maybe to get Brand and Livingston. Say no to Wilcox though. Part of me says Wilcox can be a good player but another part says, just ask for Brand only if you want any pf of theirs.

Im not really keen on Brand. Dont know why, Im just not. I def wouldnt want to give up Big Al to get him. And I wouldnt want to trade PP for him, since Al will be our PF for the future.

Brand is under-sized, but a beast down-low. LAC ripped off CHI. I suppose hindsight is always 50-50. ;D

Jefferson can play center while Brand plays pf. It can work that way too. Especially the way the center position is dying off, Jefferson would be a quick center and a big one. I would really like to see how that goes.

Trading Jefferson to get Brand would make no sense because we are not improving our depth at a position we need more depth in. We would maintain our over-supply of swing men and simply be trading one PF for another. It would make more sense to trade one of our wings and maybe Blount to get Brand -- then we would be adding an additional quality big man by trading one of our many wings (Pierce, Davis, Allen, Green, Gomes). We may have to add a pick, depending on which players we offered.

I guess the question to ask is which player is Ainge interested in. We can certainly place our bets on Livingston, being that our PG situation isn't set in stone yet. And Ainge moved Walker because he didn't want Toine being in Jefferson's way, so it seems that he is intent on keeping Jeffeson at PF--which takes Brand out of the picture. If not, he could have moved Jefferson to Center and kept Walker at PF. This goes against my idea of bringing in Carlos Boozer and moving Jefferson to Center to accomodate the move. It could work with Brand too. But I guess Ainge has his mind set with Jefferson at PF.

These two teams have enough players with big contracts, small contracts, future potential, proven ability etc to get this to happen. (Nobody mentioned Kaman who I don't hate by the way). The Clips may want two PG (prospects) if they give up theirs since ours aren't as good, and that wouldn't be the end of the world at all with guys like Bynum in camp and vets available for the minimum (D Armstorng?) I never was in love with Brand cause he seemed small and slow, but stats are stats, however I think he could stunt the growth of AL J. Al J looked like the next big high school star to me, but now I am slightly more cautious after the summer. If I were DA I'd be looking for Livingston, Kaman, Wilcox, and a first rounder and I'd be looking to give up PP, Blount, and one of our PGs. All the things we get are cheap and young and we'd give up old and expensive. Then in 2007 I'd target Greg Oden. Our pick, the Cleveland Jiri pick, the Clippers pick, our 2nd rnder and Golden States 2nd rounder and a young prospect like Gomes or OG or Wilcox ought to do it. Not all those picks come exactly then but we could parlay it.

Eja, good thought, though that sounds like the Hershel Walker deal in football. ;D

If I remember that worked out for the Cowboys. And I personally thought a 6 team 14 player trade could never happen

IF danny has any interest in the clippers' roster the one interested he's in is definitely livingston. that's a pretty big if though.
btw wilcox was pretty good at the beginning of last season but got injured and was never able to work his way back to rotation for some reason.
don't forget that perkins totally outplayed kaman in the summer league. out-defended could be better word
