Are there any suggestions as to what type of defensive scheme, the C's should implement, next season? Well, to start things off, I suggest that they utilize the "assets" available - speed and quickness !
1. Trap in the backcourt alot - at different times, so as not to be predictable (the guards can always get back in play - speed).
2. A lot of designed, Man to Man, sets - quickness.

I like the killer instinct. When we get a team down by 10 or so - or when we bring in the second unit - press the ball. Put on a 3/4 or full court press, toss in some traps and force some turnovers. With a deep bench and fresh legs this might make the opponent play our speed of ball.
West, Banks and/or Allen on the ball w/ Reed or Gomes as ball-hawk near mid-court. Throw Davis and PP into the mix to keep everyone rested.

That is what the great C's teams possessed. That is the way Banks, Reed, West, Allen and especially Perkins, like to play. But we had guys like Paul, Antoine and Gary who's defense was too "cute"! Everybody need to employ "LOCK DOWN" defense from the very first game of the season. Then most people will know/understand some of the benefits of having a "YOUNG" team !

This new team I think in the backcourt would have to lock up the lead scorer no matter what position differences are although preferrably frontcourt on frontcourt but lets say they play T-Mac, West could guard him and pair with lets say Bynum on a fast small lineup and it would throw him off balance. For a guy like Duncan, a 3 on 1 would be best including a quick sf like Green or even Gomes plus Perkins (if he can manage his fouls well) and Jefferson. Raef sure won't be good at guarding TD. I know this sounds crazy but a 5 man V for defense would be good reversing the guys around so the pgs are in the back of the v closer to the basket. The center would be up top of the V then the 2 forwards would be behind him then youd have the 2 guards in the way back meaning the opposition would have to get by the center first and if that center is a defensive powerhouse and he gets blown by, he has to face a tougher challenge getting by the quick forwards and the even quicker guards. A V format hasn't been used before but I think it could be a good idea myself.

I don't think you can have one scheme to be honest as B- Ball is a game of matchups. How you match up with one team will not be the same for the other. I would start with man to man concept. We don't have a super shot blocker. Raef is not bad but funnel anyone who gets beat to him. I would pressure the ball and put our best defenders on their best scorers. Reed and Allen are our best so I heard. But I would try to exploit a team's weaknesses and use who is ever guarding the team's weakest player to help on their stud or the boards. It really depends on the team.

What about the V though? Is anyone liking that idea?

I LOVE the V! ! ! As long as I don't have to call the next day. VaddaV-VaddaV - Go down and don't come up until you feel your hair being ripped out by their root. ;D

I am surprised (sarcastically) that "front the post" was not mentioned.

Good post, C4ever. You should apply for the defensive coach position ;D I'd certainly vote for you to get the job.

What about me too? I will coach a kids game someday and I will orchestrate the V.

What about me too? I will coach a kids game someday and I will orchestrate the V. I just don't get it John. How do you defend the baseline? Is the 'V' a 1/2 court or full court (pressing) type of defense?

Me neither ! I am not too sure I understand the "V", but any defense that exposes the base line will put too much pressure on your Bigmen and thereby causing them foul trouble. Anyway, it sounds too much like OBIE ball - don't want no part of it (give up too many crucial/winning baskets)!

Its a halfcourt set. If it was a full court defense man, it would even make less sense.
