Boston Trade Breakdown Outgoing Mark Blount 7-0 C from Pittsburgh 9.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.6 apg in 26.0 minutes Ricky Davis 6-7 SG from Iowa 16.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 apg in 32.9 minutes Paul Pierce 6-6 SF from Kansas 21.6 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 4.2 apg in 36.1 minutes Incoming Doug Christie 6-6 SG from Pepperdine 5.7 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.2 apg in 25.2 minutes Grant Hill 6-8 SF from Duke 19.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 3.3 apg in 34.9 minutes Change in team outlook: -21.6 ppg, -7.0 rpg, and -3.3 apg.
Successful Scenario Due to Orlando and Boston being over the cap, the 25% trade rule is invoked. Orlando and Boston had to be no more than 125% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Trade ID Every trade made by fans is allocated a unique Trade ID which you can share with friends and fellow basketball fans to allow them to see your trade scenario. The Trade ID for this scenario is 2528198. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you accuse me of going insane, let me tell you why this trade makes sense.
Grant Hill and Doug Christie are both mature veterans and good role models for the fans and young players. Both have shorter contracts which the Celtics will clear cap room and be positioned favorably for the upcoming free agency period.
The team really needs to purge all ties to the Pitinoto and Ga$ton regime and this trade does exactly that.
I think this trade idea deserves serious merit and is consistant with the new vision of Danny Ainge.

Only if we're doing a total rebuilding mode even then I would not do this trade.

Grant Hill's comeback had its setbacks. He did look good at times, but he also injured. I wouldn't be so hesitant if Hill wasn't as old as he is (already in his 30's). But moving Pierce AND Ricky for Christie and Hill just doesn't seem appetizing--despite it being a good effort to interject good role models for our young players to follow.

Why Ricky Davis? If and IF we move PP, RD knows he the man among kids. He might grasp that and grow into a nice leader. He did grow mentally last season.

Way too much for to little. Instead of purging the Pitino Era, it looks like a Pitino trade.
No free agent wants to play for a team that would be giving up like that.

Awful trade that would be. Now Blonut and Pierce, I may do it if Orlando offered a 1st round pick but not Ricky added.

Does that work under the salary cap, BC? You may have to investigate on that one. The last time I checked, a pastic bottle does not make 6 million a year. But if the league will allow it just this one time, I'm all for it.

If we kept RD and they threw in a 2 1st rounders, Id maybe bite. And those picks would have to be unprotected as well. And wasnt christie released last week?

I'm actually ot sure I see the reason for Orlando to do it. They get a huge contract (PP) another huge and underproductive contract (MB) and Ricky D, and only get rid of one biug contract. They upgrade on talent but screw their cap long term
