Was out playing ball the past two days. I'm a bit out of shape but felt young and like i havent lost much. I dont feel the same as i used to where my intent was always to get better and get in better physical shape. As you get old you have to be careful. Your musces are different.
I'm going to be 39 this summer. Basketball is somethign i've always done to get out and exercise. That and bike riding and jogging.
It's weird though I watch myself play these days and I wonder sometimes why i never went for it watching these summer league players. NBA is different but I could play with these summer league guys.
Thing is i did last summer i was at the college here playing with the college players. I'm lwas like 37 playing with a bunch of 21 year olds dunking hte basketball. I was able to hang with them but just funny. Growing up used to play with some very good players but some peopel just dont play organzied for whatever reason. Don't think they are good enough. Dont have the opportunity or whatever.
At 38 im smart and my shot is so good these days. 30 something years of shooting a basketball pays off. Life lesson go after your dreams i guess. Don't let your guidance counselor in highschool tell you to do something else.

Good post. CF, likewise I am on the wrong side of 30 (I think I will be 37 in August). I never played basketball, though I was a runner in high school, college, and post-collegiently. Recently, I was diagnosed w/ a bone spur in my right knee which severely hampered my racing performances. As I am taking time off (been off about 3 1/2 weeks), I am wavering whether I will make a come back to running, or hang them up.
My advice is to assess if you are happy or not at what you are currently doing. If you are, stay the course; if you aren't, make some changes.

I've basically bounced around with sports RR. I played soccer in junior high and football as a freshman. I played a year of basketball in college and played intramurals mainly football throughout. played little league and basketball early and late.. my friends and i growing up and even in my 20's and even 30's were just always looking for a game to play. Hard to find people these days but I still play.
I never really had a set position fresh. I play sf. I like playing pg and center the most i think.
I'm mainly joking. I'm too old but I've gotten really good. I was deciding between sports management and computer science when i went to school and didnt get into the school i wanted. So i've done computer stuff for years. always had a love for both.
My shot is really good right now though. I have good fundamentals. I watch this stuff. All last summerI was trying to copy ray allens form and was doing some of his drills.
This summer I was watching sullinger and trying to replicate his post moves.
I feel old out there playing. my friend who used to play pickup with me died last summer. I don't know when to quit.

CF, most of my runner friends have left running. In fact, when I go to races, I rarely know anyone. On a side note, alot of my runner friends have taken different paths in life, and its interesting to see how they turned out.

That's the thing RR. My friends and I used to play a ton growing up. People who played on the team etc... I grew up in western mass. There were all these churches in the hill towns we'd play in. Through 20's same thing at local colleges. Then I met people I worked with and was playing with them. Now I'm old. I play on the courts here in worcester. There is pick up basketball but it's usually just me out there s hooting around. People show up etc.
I don't know. I hate getting old. Why don't people continue to play sports. I get having other priorities but it keeps me in shape.
I'm like 6'2" 200 pounds. My uncle played for georgetown. My dad was never into sports. But there is basketball in my family.
I just took the slower route or something lol. I never really played organized for that long. I was doing other things.

CF, I understand. Its just not the same. However, you have to create the same now.
I can't speak for basketball, but I can speak for running, in terms of aging. There are short, medium, and long -term runners. Short, they run high school, maybe college. Medium, they run those two, and some post-collegiently. Long, they are runners for life.
Hey, I attended Stonehill College from 1993 to 1997. Maybe we know some of the similiar peeps?
