I know this may be sacrilege but I don't care if we make the playoffs this year. I want us to develop the kids. We can make the playoffs every year and not go anywhere.... Sound familiar? Yeah, I would sacrifice this year for a stronger team next year--but will the owners? They need to think about keeping fans in the seats in order to pay the electric bill. I think their objective is to develop the kids but still make the playoffs. That is probably why Ainge is still going after a vet PG. Actually, count me in with all of this. Playoffs are not important this year. The kids just need time and they might as well trade Pierce because hes gonna have fits due to losing each game regardless. This team can have a 20 win season and at least I could say, its a developmental rebuilding process so its not the end of the world.

I don't know, Meltin. I get the feeling that you will start venting out your frustrastions on us if this happens.

C'mon guys, "believe a little ! I think the owners will be able to pay more than just "the electricity bill"! Just the Brand/style of basketball the C's will be playing, will certainly draw the fans consistently. There will be a lot of close games and I hope the C's win their share of them. It all depends on whether or not they develop that "killer Instinct". You don't have to be a "VET"to have that. over here in the Bahamas, our high school kids play, with that kind of attitude !

So many variables this year, who knows what they are going to do as a team. We certainly are going to loose some. How much who knows. I think without Walker we will play more fundamental basketball across the board. PP is still on board, ATM so no way to tell if he will buy in or go into dogging it mode. That really is the key. PP can carry the offensive load of a team nicely I think. All it will take is one of the kids to step up and toss in about 17 or so and I think we will be ok.

I think you are so right, Celtics4ever, because that's my main point that I keep coming back to. And I think that someone will be Tony Allen....and the surprise offense on the starting unit WILL be Delonte - If teams dooble, he will the open jumpers !

I don't know, Meltin. I get the feeling that you will start venting out your frustrastions on us if this happens. You do? You don't think I can prove you wrong and just be calm with it? Would you get the feeling that I would say Pierce needs to be brought back?

No, I just get the feeling that if we go on extended losing streaks, you will be calling for Rivers' head and for Ainge to be fired for trading Pierce away. But you might prove me wrong ;D
In order for us to move forward this season and not really skip a beat from last year (after Antoine's return), a lot of players need to step it up and produce for us. Obviously, Jefferson needs to give us more than 6 ppg, and I have no doubt that he will double this amount with more than 20 minutes per game. Scalabrine needs to prove Ainge's faith in him is right on the mark--he needs to give us some scoring and rebounding as a bench player.
I feel that Tony Allen is going to have a really good second year in the league, as his confidence grows and his skills are honed. His all around game will be more evident for everyone to see (especially his ball handling skills).
In order for us to lessen the blow of not having a vet PG like Payton around (as of right now, we still don't have a vet PG), Rivers needs to be creative with his schemes so that our young PG's won't have to single handedly break down full court presses.

Last year, it seemed like our second unit, which was mostly rookies, was our strongest unit out there. I wouldn't count them out them out yet.

Of course not. I really like the young guys and I enjoy watching them. But its one thing to count on the rookies to come in and create an uptempo style of play for a short burst of time. And its another thing to ask them to carry us for a much longer period of time.
Have no fear--I am very optimistic about our future. These young guys are truly the guys we need to build our team around. They symballize "team" a lot more than the core of players we had in the past. But Rome wasn't built in 15 minutes ;D

But Rome wasn't built in 15 minutes ;D I agree with you and this is the main point of note - these guys have a better concept of team ball, than the VETS ! GP should have had much more assist than he did last year. I remember looking at box scores and used to wonder what was happening to his passing skills (he kept preaching about it in his comments). That same very concept of TEAM - is going to help them play more like VETS than anything else. Just look at their summer - they have been playing together/hanging around each other, as much as they possibly could. They are a smart group of guys - they can teach the vets a thing or two. They are building chemistry and remember that is what Doc kept preaching last year and this year ! All the Vets were concerned about is teaching the kids to play cards, etc. To build chemistry you need to spend time together not only playing cards, but other places, doing other things and most of all "on the court and in the same Gym."

No doublt about it. The kids don't have to be told to practice together. They seem to be have this urge to grow as a group together. Maybe its because they feel that they are all in the same boat--all 9 of them have been drafted in a period of 2 years (July '03 - July '05). And the really awesome thing is that they are working out with the coaching staff. Its good to work out on your own--but its even better to work out with your coach's staff because they know exactly what you should be working on to make more of an impact during the season. I love reading about Tony Allen working on his spot up shooting and one on one skills. I love hearing that the coaching staff is working on Delonte's pick and roll. They are even working on Jefferson's post positioning. These are all the things they specifically need to work on that will make them better players almost instantly.
And from playing together all summer, they are forming a bond between one another, which should also be a big benefit in terms of chemistry.
