So they might as well trade him anyways. Even if its by the trade deadline. In all 50 states of an ESPN poll on who the team to not make the playoffs in the east is out of 5 teams who were seeds 4,5,6,7 and 8th last year. Boston took most of those votes in terms of not making the playoffs.

So because of the way people vote in an ESPN poll, we should trade Pierce? Nice way to decide your player policy on...
Those polls are so predictable, each year, the Celtics rank in the bottem of these things, why? because they don't sign a high profile FA. Each year, they make the playoffs....
Developping youth never reflects well on fans that don't follow the Celts closeby.

Thats not what I meant Ossric but its a reference point also. I did not say to take it seriously. New Jersey will be the division winner though. Cleveland may actually make the playoffs so that leaves our team at #9. Predictions aren't always accurate though. Our team got a few guys for Walker so far, Green, Gomes and Greene came in along with Scalabrine. GP's gone plus there may be 1 more vet pg coming in. Gotta wait and see but its leaning in the direction the c's wont make the playoffs.

We'll have to see how Pierce plays this season. If he isn't running and playing with energy, he'll stick out like a sore thumb. If he's holding onto the ball too long in the halfcourt offense, or if he's not giving the ball up to the PG on the fastbreaks, he'll stick out like a sore thumb. If he's sulking, he'll stick out like a sore thumb.
Since Ainge is trying to get rid of Blount because of his negative energy, Pierce better take note and start playing with positive energy.
At this point, I'd hold onto Pierce and try to use him in the summer of '07 to try and get Greg Oden through the draft. That might be the only way we'd have a chance of landing him.

Ive stated it a bazillion times on here, but IMO Ne Jersey and Cleveland will be in the play-offs next year. So thatl leave chicago, Washington, and Boston to fight for the last opening.

We may well take our lumps giving over to the youth movement but it will be worth it to see some player development. Imagine if we had JJ and Billups now. We let em go and now they have real value. Play the kids even if we suck. They will improve.
The ball is in PP 's court. He can come back and be the man or he can be a jackass hoping to force a trade. I wouldn't want to cross Ainge . He might end up in like Toronto with no chance of winning should he do that.

At this point, I'd hold onto Pierce and try to use him in the summer of '07 to try and get Greg Oden through the draft. That might be the only way we'd have a chance of landing him. Danny could get a lottery pick in 07 with Pierce as trade bait but no way will he get the #1 pick in a trade. He will probably get a losing teams pick before picks are decided and all and if it goes #1 to boston, they'd be really lucky and if it doesn't, oh well, it was a try and yet, you'd still have a lottery pick even if it wasn't Oden. But at least you wouldn't be junking a season to get a shot at Oden like Pitino was with Duncan. We may well take our lumps giving over to the youth movement but it will be worth it to see some player development. Imagine if we had JJ and Billups now. We let em go and now they have real value. He might end up in like Toronto with no chance of winning should he do that. Yea, at least Ainge dealt Walker to places where hed have a chance to win. If Pierce acts like more of an !!!GREENIAC!!!, I just see Ainge moving him wherever without thinking about that sort of thing. Besides Walkers bad shooting and control the game mentality, he doesn't act as bad as Paul Pierce has. He has more of a handle on it anyways. But yea, if he crosses Ainge, Ainge will send him to a loser and not even think about sending him to a winner. Just anything to get him out basically. He may not wish Pierce the best of luck like he did to Walker if he gets to be too bad of an !!!GREENIAC!!! this year. Ainge is a nice guy no doubt but I myself would not want to test his limits. Pierce has blown him off before as it is.

Meltin, we couldnt trade our entire team for the #1 pick in the 07 draft. If we want a shot at Oden, we'll have to either be bad, or get an nprotected lottery pick via a pierce trade, and hope for the best.

Too early IMO to predict playoff positions. For example, NJ may not end up with SAR afterall due to health concerns; out West, Phoenix may retain J. Johnson afterall due to the feud among Atlanta ownership. And who is to say how things will be chemistry wise between LeBron and Hughes -- plus they still don't have a point guard in Cleveland. And given how our trade exception expires next August, Ainge has to use it within the year, and it may well come into play by this year's trade deadline. Plus I want to see how Allen, West, Jefferson and Perkins do this year -- if they take a leap forward it can more than make up for losing Payton and Walker. I personally thought last year's team took longer than expected to get on track; if we can get off to a decent start we could be as competitive as we were last year, but with more energy.

The Wizards won't be as good as last year, loosing Hughes and having Daniels & Atkins as his replacement. That's a serious defensive downgrade. Plus teams won't underestimate them anymore at the beginning of the season.
Philly, haven't added anything this offseason. Webber is another year older. Iverson had a top year last season, virtually injury free and the still won less games than we did.
Chicago: added nothing, won't be underestimated anymore.
These teams are no playoffspot lock either.

I know this may be sacrilege but I don't care if we make the playoffs this year. I want us to develop the kids. We can make the playoffs every year and not go anywhere.... Sound familiar?

Yeah, I would sacrifice this year for a stronger team next year--but will the owners? They need to think about keeping fans in the seats in order to pay the electric bill.
I think their objective is to develop the kids but still make the playoffs. That is probably why Ainge is still going after a vet PG.

If we do fall under .500 with the young guys playing, do the fans not come? Will they notice this is a growing squad taking baby-steps? I wound be getting my season tickets now, before they get too high. Being in Iowa, that won't happen. The corn looks good though.

No, I think the fans will not come if we're under .500. When Walker came back, ticket sales boosted. That may be the reason why Walker was brought back--to get the fans back into the seats. I don't think that the majority of fans care to watch their team go through a rebuilding process (or in our case, a developmental process).

I guess I don't live close enough! Do the fans see any of this madness of DA?
