Good read. ND to vote whether to keep Fighting Sioux as mascot The fate of the Fighting Sioux is in the hands of North Dakota voters today, at least when it comes to having their logo embroidered on uniforms at the state university. The University of North Dakota is currently on the wrong side of NCAA legislation that deemed some schools' American Indian logos to be "hostile or abusive." Certain colleges retired their logos, while others such as Florida State got the blessing of local tribes to keep them. Despite receiving support from one of the state's two major tribes, Sioux tribal leaders couldn't reach an agreement among themselves. UND itself is all for scrapping the Sioux, so to speak, but a number of supporters led by the Committee for Understanding and Respect have promised to continue the fight, regardless of today's outcome. now.msn.com/now/0612-fighting-sioux-vote.aspx

I personally suspect that FSU cut a deal behind the scenes. And I'm fine with it. But the idea that they're just good friends or something I'm not buying. Everything is about money these days.

This has been a huge issue here for the last few years. Hopefully it'll be over after this (but that's probably wishful thinking).
