I liked Rambis best when Kevin choked him.

It's really sad when you sign a player for 5 yrs and hope he will be another Kurt Rambis...for me, this goes against everything Danny believes in, which is potential to be great. He traded away all of his "solid" players for guys he thought could be great (ie Ricky D)...his drafts show the same trend. Even though Scala clearly won't be an impact player on this team (or even get ANY playint time), it's still disappointing to waste a roster spot on a big, clunky, flaming, pale white guy who only has one thing going for him- he hustles...bfd

He'll get PT if Walker isn't signed, if Perk or Al J falter, if Raef gets hurt. He'll get something.

Its a lot easier to go for the home run in the draft b/c you dont really know what kind of player youre getting. FA meanwhile, you know what youre going to get. When was the last time a low level free agent turned into an all-star caliber player? Unless you are going for a great player(Lebrom, Shaq, etc) FA is a hard place to get value for your money. Thats why I like seeing Danny getting the cornerstones through the draft, and using FA to get role players like Scala. Honestly, there are no mid-level free FAs out their that I really want. And all of this Scalabrine bashing is completely unfounded. Did anyone say he was the next Doctor J? Lets look at how you bash him: "a big, clunky, flaming, pale white guy who only has one thing going for him- he hustles...bfd" big- last time i checked thats not a bad thing in basketball. clunky- I dont really get what clunky means. Is he uncoordinated? I guess I'll by that. flaming- Give me a break. pale white guy- Again, give me a break. And that comment on hustling is ridiculous. I guess winning basketball games is a bfd. So in summery, you dont like him because he's tall, uncoordinated, gay, and white? By golly, I think I guy by the name of Larry Bird fits 4 of those 5 catagories (and he may have been uncoordinated, too)! There's no way you can win with guys like that on your roster!

but whos to say that saras will be a good nba player,is 82 games nba i know for a fact that the dont play that many games in europe what about his defence can he keepup with does other guards! i want to see it for my self. I agree. Saras MIGHT be a good player, but he is not NBA-proven. I'm not sure spending all the MLE on him would have been the best move for us. Besides, as Ossric pointed out, he did not want to come here. He turned down Cleveland even though Z is one of his best friends and recruited him to come to Cleveland. He simply felt that of all the teams bidding for him, Indiana was the closest to being a contender.

There's always the possibility that Saras won't fit in with the NBA. Take a look at Carlos Arroyo, who looked fantastic leading the Argentinians in their victory over USA last year in the Olympics. But he barely gets any playing time in the NBA (first with Utah, and now with the Pistons). International ball is different from NBA basketball, and some players can't make that transition.
But, from the amount of attention he drew from Ainge, Bird, and other smart basketball minds--he does seem to have a good shot at making a good career in the NBA. I respect their basketball judgements and I think they see good things coming from Saras.
But we'll have to wait and see. I think Saras would have been a good fit in PHO because coach D'monti learned his offensive coaching over in Italy and its been highly effective in the NBA. Saras playing in Indiana, where Jermain O'neal and Ron Artest take up most of the offense using their halfcourt game and running down the clock on most possessions, may not be his best way to break into the NBA.

Talk about taking a comment wayyyy too seriously, fresh. It's just another way of saying that there really are better players out there for Danny to get. Scala is not a proven player, period, so clearly he is not a "cornerstone"- He is not somebody I would consider solid...
And if you want to talk about ridiculous, don't ever compare Larry Bird to Scalabrine. That's like comparing Michael Jordan to Kedrick Brown.

Truthfully, I would rather see guys like Reed and Perk getting the playing time over Scalabrine. Everyone around here always talks about "development"- well Danny sure canned that pretty quick, especially if he re-signs Antoine, as well...and that would be a GREAT thing....
Let's see how much more my friggin "Karma" can drop. This place drives me up the wall. It's like a cult that disagrees with everything I say.

Look how wrong mine is. I see Reed and Mt Perk getting more PT than Scalabrine. Try not to take things so personal Jambr. Your presents and opinion are wanted brother.

Derrren, great points about the foreign players, esp in the Olympic year.
Saras is a gamble, which ever team signs him. Indiana. as Derren mentioned, the international game is much different than the NBA. Probably one reason the world has caught up to the US during the Olympics.

Yeah, as much as I was hoping Jasikevicius would come here, its never a guarantee that he's going make us really good. I think he's ready to make a splash, though--more than a ripple, but less than a tidal wave.
Jambr, I think you are feeling like this whole board is against you, when its really not like that. Sure there are disagreements going on with your posts, but that's part of the territory when you make stark statements, like Scalabrine is a waste of money, or he's a big white loof, or whatever. You made the same statements about Raef last year, and actually, he really looked pretty good early in the year (his body and knees grew tired as the season wore on because he barely played the year before). As far as the Antoine debates go, you are a supporter of his, while many Celtics fans aren't.
But other than that, I don't see any flares going off whenever you post. It could be an overreaction to some of the negative posts.

In addition, I can see why people have a hard time understanding why some of us don't want Anoine back. He wants to play here, he puts up decent #'s, and we went on a run the second he came back. It makes for great message board fodder.
