Ainge talks about changing personel this summer, by getting a vet PG and getting better shooters up front (not sure what he means by that. Don't Blonut and Raef already stay far away from the basket as it is?). Addition by subtraction? If AW isn't around to miss 4 ft shots, this might be considered getting better. ;D

I think alot of people are over looking the opportunity of picking up a champion pg. The Celtics need to make a strong push for Jasikevicius this off season and resign Walker. Jasikevicius IMHO is everything the Celtics are lacking he will bring so many intangibles to the team and make a big impact. Any thoughts?

Hey Greeny, do you post on the Boston Herald message board? I saw that SN over there while I was checking out the news.
The main reason why Walker was a breath of fresh air for us was because his fiery attitude transformed our sluggish attitude so that we played with a lot more swagger.
If Jasikevicius comes across the pond and lands at our doorstep, we won't need Walker around to provide us with his fiery competitiveness, because apparently, Saras has more than enough fire in his belly to go around and get his teammates pumped up.
BTW, seems like all is quiet on the Jasikevicius front, after hearing a lot of speculation that he's more than likely to be a Celtic last week. Anything new about this whole thing?

All I've heard is that, according to his agent, it will take $5 million per season to sign him.

I read that his agent is waiting to hear more offers for Saras' service. Looks like he may be looking for the highest offer. As far as I've been reading around the internet, looks like we're the only speculated who have offered Saras a contract near the MLE.

If the Scalabrini signing is true, IMO it effectively puts us out of the running for Saras, as we will only have about $2 million left of the MLE.

Yep, that's what I was thinking.
That could mean that Ainge has faith in our PG situation. Or maybe he has a contingent plan which he feels could work also. Or maybe getting Scalabrini was too enticing for him to pass up, even if it meant getting Saras.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that back when Ainge was a commentator for TNT, Scalabrini credited Ainge with helping him earn a spot on the Nets' rotation. Ainge basically encouraged him to stick to his strengths, such as taking charges and making hustle plays, and Scalabrini really impressed the coaches in NJ be excelling in these areas. So it seems they have a history of working together, or at least collaborating a bit in discussing basketball. That connection may have meant more to Ainge than the "potential" that Saras could bring, since Scalabrini already knows the NBA game and Ainge wants guys who will make better decisions and keep a level head on the court.

Thanks for the insight Mev. Well, if that's the case, we can expect Brini to give 120% to the Celtics because of his gratefulness to Ainge.
People don't seem to fully grasp what he's going to be giving us. He's not a star player. He's a solid backup player. And having solid backups who can be productive in limited minutes is a very essential part of good basketball. And for 3 million a year, that's not too shabby.

DM man, hmmm, I just can't buy your positivity...I just keep shaking my head and hoping the deal falls through. PLEASE Danny, if you are reading this, think twice before completing the deal. I have gained such a respect for you- now it's back in the dumpster... PLEASE!!!
Sorry all of my posts are the same about this, but I am seriously freaking out...what a waste.

I understand why someone would not be wild about this signing, but save yourself the stress of freaking out -- it's not a big enough matter to dramatically change our fortunes. My guess is that the Free Agents who Ainge felt were worth the MLE were not planning on coming to Boston, so Ainge instead decided to split the MLE between a couple of veteran role players. For the contract to come out to $15 million over 5 years, it probably starts at $2.5 million with the 8% increases under the new CBA. And we don't know how many of the 5 years are guaranteed, or how many may be at the team's option, so I wouldn't stress too much over it.

Hey Jambr. I don't expect you to like this deal. I mean, Scalabrine can be seen as a younger Raef LaFrentz, and we all know you don't like Raef at all ;D

haha, like I said with Raef, at least he can play- just despise the contract...I just don't see the point in this signing, that's all. He really has no redeeming qualities except for being a hard worker. That's what they say about guys who aren't very talented. Anyway, even though most of you hate Walker, you have to admit a cpl mill a year more for 2 fewer years would clearly make our team better. This just does nothing, except add another big body with no impact. I like Potential, and this guy certainly has lived up to all of it already.
