I still have my #35 celtics jersey in my closet. I also have a Reggie lewis poster laminated, and a Brian Shawn & Reggie Lewis poster too.
I collected basketball cards back in the day and have his rookie card.
I damn near cried when I heard about his death. I was numb for over a week. He was truly a special player and a special person. I remember reading/hearing about his thanksgiving turkey giveaways.
That $#(*%#)*$Y@#$(*& story about him having cocaine in his body made me want to smack those reporters in the head. I will NEVER believe that B.S.

I may have told this story already but...
I woke up that morning of his wake and made my way to Matthews Arena on the Northeastern Campus. I was there early, but there were at least 200 people there already. Up until that point in my life I had not been to a wake and I was not prepared to see my Basketball hero lying in state. I walked past him and even though it was him, it wasn't him. I sat down in the third row, but moments into Amazing Grace I left balling my eyes out. I kept the card they handed out and about 8 newspapers that headlined his death from that day. I too have a bunch of basketball cards including his all-star card.
You are a true Greeniac CelticFan.

I remember one Sunday morning, Reggie scored 32 pts and I went to church all excited about what he did. And all throughout the service, I was thinking about our afternoon basketball games with my buddies, and how I would need to hit 16 shots to match Reggie's performance.

The thing I miss about Reggie is that when I was a kid Larry was basically gone, McHale was on the way out, the Chief was slowing down, Ainge had been traded, Bias had died, but there was Reggie. He had just become an all-star, and I figured since he was young he'd always be an all-star and keep getting better. I thought maybe he'd be enough. He was smiling so much when he got to the all-star team. Like he had earned it and maybe knew something we didn't. It didn't seem like we'd be champs right away, but like we'd be good. A team you wanted to see. The Lakers were getting older so it was fair. And then done. Gone. Like God had attacked us again, only this time instead of picking on a college guy who couldn't control himself He went after a family man and one of our best friends. And instead of kicking us while we were down he knocked us down right as we were getting up. I personally got thrown a bone with Montross but he wasn't that good.
Then there were the accusations of cocaine. I got mad, and couldn't go through it again, and washed my hands of him. I would hear no more. It was too painful.
And now I really miss him. Instead of the Pacers' Reggie coming out of retirement it could be our Reggie coming out of retirement.
The whole thing makes me question whether it really is better to have loved and lost. I don't know. I just hope wherever he is Reggie is excited about Celtics basketball again and hasn't forgotten us cause we definitely didn't forget him.
