number 35 was a special number for me in high school. i remember making the baseball team and wanting to wear the #35 because of reggie lewis (and also because mike mussina was my favorite oriole at that time). but my friend really liked frank thomas and wanted to wear #35, so i let him have it. i picked the second best number.......... #33.
to this day, #35 has a special place in my heart.

That is a great story derren! After he died, I took a white out pen and wrote his name and number on this old black Celtics cap I wore. I had to re-write his name and number a few times before the hat literally rotted off my head. I would wash it or take it off accept to sleep. A few of the my friends would make fun of me, but there was this one kid who used to play basketball with me down at Columbia park and he used to call me Reggie, which I loved!  |

even better story pb. you did a lot of things that i did.
i did the same with by baseball cap. i used to write my favorite players on the bottom of the bill. i wrote cal ripken, roberto alomar and mike mussina on there. i also wrote my signature on there thinking that i'll one day be a star shortstop. never happened, but that was my dream.

Both of ours are equally great! Ah to be that age again! Remember when we were talking about reggie on the ESPN board and I said how I used to try an mimic reggies moves on the court. I think you may have said that first, but I remember how I used to practice that awkward stance of his and try to blow past the defender with the plodding first step he used. Never could quite get it right (or wrong depending on how you look at it).  |

for any fan of the celtics, reggie is sorely missed. he was just getting on track toward superstardom. he was the first celtic to post 100 blocks and 100 assists and 100 steals in a season right? i'm sure i read about that somewhere. he had a very live body.
he was just an awkward player. like he could fall over at any time, or trip over his shoelaces. but boy could he play. he never got tired. bottomless energy.

Loyalist- Also a cool story. Not sure why it took me this long to get to this thread? My tribute was sorta like yours. I have a Celtic tee-shirt that was a favorite. When Reggie died I wrote his "#35" on the front, under the C's logo, with a black Sharpie. It's still my favorite shirt, for other reasons now. It's time to retire it because it's near transparent due to wear. The #35 on it has held up over the years with-out re-inking. Reggie was a special person.  |

Did you get to see Pistol Pete for yourself? I've only seen highlights. Only on TV. I've never been to an NBA game.  I was glad when Pistol came to Boston to end his career. He was an electic player for so many years. If you've never seen the movie -Pistol Pete- ya need to. |
