I'm sure there are a few of you who play the guitar (or at least have in the past), so I thought I'd start a guitar thread and toss around some questions.
Any of you heard of the Boss GT-10? Or the Line 6 equivalent, called the POD X3 Live?
I'm strongly considering buying one of them, and currently, I'm leaning towards the GT-10.
I'm primarily going to use it for our song service at the chapel I fellowship at, so I'm mostly interested in a clean tone, but I'm also going to start dabbling in home recordings and will incorporate distortion sounds as well.
Otherwise, I was just going to go after this new acoustic pedal that just came out called the LR Baggs Venue D.I. Its made for acoustic guitars, and its basically a 5-band EQ with some other options (like a boost and a filter for feed back and also an onboard tuner).
Any input on these pedals?

I took lessons back in high school and eventually bought a Peavey bass. Eventually I stopped going to lessons and the bass sat in my closet for years.
A couple of months ago a couple classmates of mine mentioned that they'd like to get a band together, but they've had no luck. After a few (read: several) cocktails, they talked me into giving it a whirl. I've been practicing a bit every day, and am still pretty terrible, but we're hoping to play a show or two this spring. It's been a blast so far.

So how's it working out, Fresh? You guys got any record deals coming up?
What type of guitar cables are you (or your buddies) using? I got these standard cables that I'm sure I picked up years ago cause they were cheap, and they are making popping noises when I touch them or move them. I'm going to get new cables and wanted to know what musicians nowadays prefer.
I'm thinking about getting Monster cables. Lots of people chimed in with their responses, and a good number of them are pleased with their monsters. Primarily because there's a lifetime warranty on em, but some even said it gives them better tone.

All of our stuff is old junk. I've got a Stone bass amp, and the cord I use is the same one I've had since I bought the guitar. So far we've got one guy on bass(me), on guy on guitar, a girl on cello, and a guy on drum. That's right, a drum. He's hoping to get a full trap set soon,

I have a fender strat and a mesa boogie amp. . The mesa puts out some good sounds. I was looking at a line 6 years back when i bought my amp. It came down between that or the mesa. this was all like 10 years ago though. The line 6 if i remember correctly had a wde range of sounds but the tone wasn't quite as good. It was a tube vs a solid state amp though if i remember correctly. harmonycentral.com has good user reviews on every guitar and amp known to man if they are still around. that's where i researched it, if you want to check it out. Just look up the amps and people who have them have pretty detailed impressions. Then i just went into the stores that had them and tried them out. Line 6 amps in general are highly recommended and are cost effective for what you can do with them if i remember correctly.

Which Boogie amps do you have. I love their saturation on the distortion--much fuller and deeper sounding.
But I'm not looking for an amp. I'm primarily going to be using the P.A. at the chapel, so I just wanted a exterior effects pedal that will make my acoustic sound a bit more colorful. As it is right now, my acoustic is terrific unplugged, but when I hook up to the P.A., the sound is bland (I guess this is a common complaint among most acoustic guitarists--the beautiful "natural" sound from the acoustic doesn't carry over)
More and more, I think I may go for the GT-10.

it's just a mesa boogie subway rocket reverb. It's rockin though lol. At least for what i do. It's also much better than anything i can do. I am not worthy. You are right. It has a deep rich sounds. That's what i like. It also has serious saturation and distortion if you want to go that route.

When i got my guitar I was a huge Eddie Van Halen fan and was looking for that brown sound sort of without paying thousands of dollars to buy his amp. Plus i wanted my own sound. The mesa really fit that at the time. I got a california fat strat with a humbucker at the bridge to give it an even fuller sound.

Yeah, back in the day when I was a metal head, I wanted the Boogie (I think it was the Mark IV). Mainly because it was the amp of choice for Metallica, but also because I really dug their sound.
Any amp recommendation for acoustic playing?

Aren't fenders the best for clean sounds? They definately have that distinctive fender sound though and if you don't like it yeah.
I actualyl really like the clean channel on the mesa. It's kind of bluesy but it has a distinctive sound to it. hard to explain. I would definately check out line6 though if you want a good sounding amp thats versatile. i obviously dont know much but i remember being impressed by its sound and versatility.

go on youtube dude and type in different amps and you can hear how they sound. I've YouTube'd a lot of guitar stuff lately, but yeah, I'll see what I can find as far as acoustic stuff. I'm primarily interested in getting a nice clean sound for my strumming. I won't be doing leads or riffs, just percussive strumming, so I need a clean shimmering sound that will translate from the guitar on through the amp.

So you are just looking for more a PA speaker that you can play through? Well, I'm already playing through a P.A. right now, I just want to add more substance to my sound, cause it sounds rather bland. I know most acoustic players add chorus/reverb/delay and stuff, and I may go down that road. But if I'm going to do that, I might as well as go for the GT-10 because it will allow me to do more things.

I really like the sound of Jack Johnson's guitar. It has really good low end depth, but its not so loud where you just listen to it. I would like to know what he runs his guitar through (and what guitars he plays).
