I'm thinking of this because UNC football just had to vacate I think 2009 and 2010 because they cheated.
Isn't vacating wins sort of pointless? So you don't win, but the other team doesn't either? To me it would make more sense if you were to actually forfeit. But then if you admit that you shouldn't have gone to some other bowl, then shouldn't you have to compensate the team that didn't cheat and would have gone to that bowl? Plus don't you need to pay back fans who bought expensive tickets? Plus don't you need to pay back TV networks that showed a worthless game?
If people actually had real financial consequences for breaking rules I would think that would lead to less rule breaking. You don't get to knowingly break rules and keep the money right?
Now if it's a case where you couldn't stop it because you can't keep kids away from agents 24 hours a day and they're grown kids and you aren't a baby sitter then maybe it shouldn't be a rule. Right?
Any thoughts?

Any thoughts? My issue w/ the NCAA is that it is profiting twice off programs it finds violated the the rules. Also, I agree w/ stiffer penalties. Ex: why not give the "death penalty" it gave SMU in the 80s for football violations? Now a days, its vacate "x" number of wins, and give money back to the NCAA.

The NCAA is really a joke of an organization. The bulk of its money comes from football and basketball yet it tries so hard to look like an "enforcer". They expect schools to suspend star players if they commit an offense yet these are the very same players who make bowl games or college games watchable.. the same players who attract revenue for these colleges..that very same revenue that makes college sports an entertainment industry. The very same industry that gave rise to jobs for the NCAA. Now they bite the hand that feeds it..Fools. Sooner or later colleges will just abandon their "NCAA" memberships and vote to start their own leagues free from all these restrictions.

Just sharing, I'm playing basketball again this year. There was a time when I did fall out of love of the sport a bit (baseball became my primary sport for a while) but when you've been doing something since you were a kid, you tend to go back to that. And I did need to get back to playing ball (and now I'm also writing about it, thanks to CG, yey!) since my girlfriend told me to get back in shape. We're playing in a sportsfest on the 19th, tournament style, up to 3 games in a single day, so I have to work on my conditioning. And I'm sure I said this already, but I'm wearing no. 5 as a tribute to KG. Also, I designed the uniforms to look like the C's uniforms a bit Can't believe I lost some years watching and playing the game. Then again, I really HATED the Lakers and might have not been interested when they were winning all those titles in the early 2000s. I hated Shaq and Kobe and their superstar approach. I was always rooting for someone else to beat them. It got to the point where I didn't care who they were playing against, I just wanted them to lose. I enjoy watching the Lakers (and the New York Yankees, too) lose. It's even sweeter if its KG and the C's doing the beating. I'm rambling. Haha. Then again this is off-topic stuff.

Great that you are finding your love of playing the game again. Good luck! Hope you win your tournament. Let us know how you do.
I've been hating the Lakers since 1969. And I hate them just as much today as I did then. Maybe even more. I've also added the Heat to my most hated.
I love it when the Lakers lose and when the Cheat lose and when the Celtics and Thunder win. I hope Perk stops Dwight dead in his tracks every time they play.

Great that you are finding your love of playing the game again. Good luck! Hope you win your tournament. Let us know how you do. As promised, updating you guys on how I did. We placed second in an eight team pool, had to play three games within one day in a knockout format. We blew out the first team 63-49 (10 minute quarters, didn't score but defended and rebounded well. Our second game (semifinals) was a much closer game which we won, 55-54. It was a more intense game and I had to defend the other team's top scorer for quite some time and absorbed a ton of blows and elbows. Spent all my energy on D and rebounding once again, although I did score once on a beautiful up and under move Which I hope they got on video. Our third game was the championship and...well, our best guys were ALL out with cramps, so I had to play heavy minutes (came off the bench in the first two games) Needless to say the other team blew us out. But I was proud of how our team performed with unselfish passing, always finding the open man and playing stellar team defense. The spirit of Ubuntu was alive and well in all of us. That said, I need to lose some more weight to gain more mobility on the court. I kinda feel like Eddy Curry right now.

KP for a great tournament. To tell you that Perk is my absolute favorite player in the whole world will tell you that I very much appreciated what you did in the tournament. While some people love the scorers I love the defenders. Congrats on a good tournament. Keep at it and you'll win it next time!!!

I'm watching Magic and Bird on NBA TV right now and Mrs. eja said "OMG. That guy is so ugly!" and I say "Bob Ryan? Yeah, he's a sports writer" and she says "No, not him. Him." and I say "Larry Bird?" and she says "Yeah."

Eja, if you thought Larry was ugly then, don't look now. Wow, that guy packed on some extra pounds.
