Ford just said in his chat that Detroit has a "done deal" in place for Sheed...

ESPN: TIMBERWOLVES@PISTONS Fri., 8:00 PM ET
ESPN.com news services The Detroit Pistons won the Rasheed Wallace sweepstakes Thursday, ending his one-game Atlanta Hawks career, in a trade deadline swap that also involved the Boston Celtics, a Pistons source told ESPN Insider's Chad Ford.
Detroit received Wallace and Mike James from Boston, while giving up Chucky Atkins, Lindsey Hunter, its No. 1 draft pick and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Atlanta received Chris Mills from Boston, Zeljko Rebraca and Bob Sura from Detroit and the Bucks' No. 1 draft pick that was owed to the Pistons.
Boston received Atkins, Hunter and the Pistons' aforementioned package of a No. 1 pick and cash, while surrendering Mills and James.
Bad trade in my opinion. Yes we do get a first round pick & Hunter contract ends at the end of this year and yes James isn't a PG, but unless we can trade Atkins this summer, we're stuck with him for 2 more years at 4.5 mil per year. Atkins is supposed to be a bad defender, so maybe Banks will become a starter now?
To bad we couldn't trade for Shareef earlier...

i don't know if you can consider this a bad trade. its a mediocre trade that's for sure, but not necessarily a bad one. we get another first round pick in exchange for taking on a so-so player in chucky atkins. i guess it balances out a bit. chucky atkins brings more experience to the table over mike james and that may be a good thing for marcus banks.
with 3 first round picks, i have a lot of homeworkand scouting to do on potential players we might be taking in the draft. i'm going to have work cut out for me.

Well we didn't give up much in this deal. I'm just not sure whether it's better to have Atkins for 2 years and a questionmark pick than having Mills off the books this summer. I'm not so sure if Atkins is a tradeable commodity and i just think that we could have signed a vet PG ala Travis Best for less than the 4.3 million that Atkins makes a year.
Don't get me wrong, i'm not going to miss James but the only positive thing about this trade is the extra pick, but that's really a gamble. It's not sure whether we land a good prospect with that. It's not even sure if we can trade up in the draft with the 3 picks since they're low picks. I was hoping that we would add a servicable player with the Mills contract. Alas that was not the case. If you look at the trade, the only way how this could turn out to be a good trade would be if the pick turns out to be very usefull. (unless Atkins surprises me with his play)

i hear you. i was hoping to get a more meaningful player in return for mills. atkins is average at best.
letting mills walk at the end of the season would have opened up 6.5million dollars for us. i guess ainge really wanted the extra first round pick, even though its only a late first rounder. he could see a lot of potential gems falling to the lower part of the first round.

I can see where this is going now. Boston never does well picking top 10 wise. Maybe theyll just get another Tony Parker or Zach Randolph who knows right?

i was going to say the same thing. ainge may have picked up gems with the latter 2 picks last year (perkins and hunter).
maybe ainge has a knack for finding diamonds in the rough. the lower first round picks may suit him well, then.
