Hey DM. I was wondering what you thought about this guy. Supposedly, he is soaring up the draft charts, although the draft is a ways away. Haven't seen him play, but seems to me from his profile and scouting report that he is very athletic, but that does not necessarily translate into a good basketball player.
He seems undersized to me as well. I don't think we need "athletes". I think we need bangers who can play down low, rebound, block shots, and are good team oriented basketball players, someone to help out Perk and Big Al. What do you think of this guy DM?

I got to see him once, and more than his game drawing me to watch him, it was the commentators who peaked my interest in watching him. They were saying how incredibly defensive he is and how athletic he is, etc. So I began to focus on him, and he's not bad. Still a young guy with a lot of ways to go before looking anything like a true NBA prospect. But he is pretty athletic, very quick for a guy his height, is on the slim side, and probably will get muscled around fairly easily.
But I did notice how he fights out there. Most skinny goes avoid contact, but from what I saw of Thomas, he wasn't backing away much.
Best case scenario from my early assesment is a poor man's Stromile Swift. Not as athletic or coordinated, but with a bit more fight in him. But if draft boards have him going in the 1st round, they are overshooting his potential, IMO.

Yeah. Basically I've heard that he is Stromile Swift with more fight in him.
Lots of draft boards have him going top 7. Nowadays all you have to be is a great athlete and you can go lottery.

Big time mistake if they're saying top 10. I say its a stretch right now to include him in the 1st round.
Basically, I'm not a fan of smallish big men. Even as good as Channing Frye has looked this year, he's only a scorer. He's not much of a rebounder and IMO, if you are a big man and the only real impact you make is on offense, you aren't valuable to your team. I'd much rather have a solid rebounder who can't score as much over a weak rebounder who scores 15 ppg.

Yep, no sense in getting more big men who only want to score. But Tyrus may not be this type of big man. He is averaging 10+ rpg, so he's doing his job in the trenches. But his size makes me wonder if he can take on the better bigs in the NBA. I like strong, brutish big men over smallish bigs.
