Yea I mean I would only love to have Pierce if he was the same way he was before he got stabbed. Even if he wasn't as good, playing within the system is all we want out of him. BUt I'm talking about an entire attitude transformation meaning taking a lesser salary when his contract is up to make room for other people coming in. But these are all very highly unlikely and chances are Pierce wil be moved in the 2006-2007 season.

Perhaps P2's biggest flaw is leadership. And management compounds this flaw by forcing him to be the leader.
I would like to see P2 be a Celtic for life as well.

Well Pierce has already been a celtic for 7 years or so. I hope he would only stay a celtic and get his number retired but who knows. I suppose this wingman lineup can work in the future if Pierce stays due to a change of heart and attitude. Knowing Danny, he might want doc to play guys out of position like Ricky being a backup sf to Gerald Green wheras Ricky has played guard. It will be an uptempo style which they want here. Here is our future in 1-2 years if Pierce has no problems from now on and he fits in well with the system: Quite the uptempo lineup I'd say especially the backup line: C, Jefferson F, Scala/other F, Pierce G, Green G, West/ ? ---------- C, Perkins F, Gomes F, Reed G, Allen G, Ricky G, Banks C, Raef (he could be a cripple in 2 yrs probably which will push him to the near pine) G, Greene Blonut will be gone by then so he is not on this roster. There is so much depth on this team to the point where we dont know whos going where. This is why Raef is on the near bottom of my list plus Greene and Blonut didnt even make this roster plus Ricky being a backup pg I suppose can happen if they want a good ball handler behind Delonte. I just have a feeling many guys will be playing out of position on this new running team like Ricky being a regular backup sf in the future.

Judging by the way Ainge played in his days in the NBA, and the type of players he played with and against, I'd say that playing with heart and hustle is high on his list. Looking back at the last few years of Pierce's career, he hasn't been playing with heart or that much hustle. I can emphatize with how he felt because I've played on numerous teams on the playgrounds where your teammates just aren't playing well (and the talent level is just too weak compared to the other team)--its hard to keep playing with heart and hustle when you know your team is not going to win--not even by a wide margin.
But now that Pierce has got some talented players next to him, he has to start playing better, and smarter.

Good. More picks our way!! Each 3 team trade they make, Danny always gets a 1st out of or a pair of 2nds. Think of teams right now that need pg's. I would say the rockets would need one. Lets say Pierce goes to Denver, Houston would send a 1st rounder plus crap salary to the celtics. Then Nene would be sent to the celtics. Andre Miller would be sent to Houston. Now that might all work.

i think we should start giving away those second rounders that will forever be in 50-ies anyway. if we could only turn them into first rounders

Yea, thats a good idea. Even thoguh Danny got a few steals in the mid-late 2nd, its not like that happens each year so trading into the 1st round would be a very wise decision. Not every draft will a Reed, Gomes or a Greene be there in the 50s.

[quote author=meltinjohn board=derren thread=1125964546 post=1126321949 Not every draft will a Reed, Gomes or a Greene be there in the 50s.[/quote] Ainge seems to find them in the 50s... You draft for needs as much as you dradt for potential. When it all comes together it's nice.

Very true. Its lucrative for us to draft so many talented players because we can the turn around and trade them. From top to bottom, we are filled with talented players. For instance, a guy like Justin Reed, who is somewhere between 9 - 15 on our depth chart, may actually be another teams' 7th best option (like the Raptors or Bobcats, etc.) A PG like Will Bynum, who may not make our team's cut, may latch onto another team and be their 2nd or 3rd PG.

Yes, its about getting good value in return so you dont draft by need. Say if you need a center, most of the time you draft a center today, they end up being projects or they end up like Doleacs. This way, you take the best player available and if you don't have a need for that position you picked that guy at (Gerald Green with Ricky, Allen and Pierce already there), trade an older guy who plays the same position as the one you drafted so you can still keep the young one on board.

Yep, that's how Ainge works. And he really has an eye for talent. He hasn't drafted one scrub yet (counting only the first 2 drafts he's done. We don't know how this past draft class will turn out). He's 7 for 7 so far, and I'm also counting Brandon Hunter because he was a beast for us when he got playing time.
