What once seemed like an eternity of wait is now here in front of us. The 2005 NBA Draft is upon us, fellow draft nerds. Eat. Drink. And have a happy draft day.
In less than 19 hours, we shall see who Ainge selects with our 18th pick. Or we shall see Ainge work his magic and get us higher in the draft. Or we shall see Ainge use his smarts and drop to a lower part of the draft to grab the player he wants.

Yeah, I'd like that too, Fresh. Though there are a lot of excellent consolation prizes if we don't get to land Paul or Felton. If we don't draft a stud PG this year, lets hope we still grab Jasikevicius.

I don't expect Cs to get into the top 3. Maybe find a way to get into the lottery but in the top 3. Especially with Portland and Utah trying to make a deal with each other.

I don't think Utah will want Pierce. They typically don't put up with distractions of any kind.

Just a thought here. What do you guys think of moving the 18th pick to the Lakers in exchange for their 37th and 39th pick (7th and 9th pick of the second round)? With those 2 picks, we may be able to land both Ryan Gomes and Nate Robinson--2 excellent players who can add solid depth to our bench. Ainge seems really interested in Gomes, but 18 may be too high to pick him. Nate Robinson is just a phenomenal player, even if he's only 5'8".

Derren if I knew for sure we could get Nate Robinson I might do it, but there's little guarantee of getting players like that. I like the salary cap ramifications, but a draft with 4 2nd rounders seems odd. Plus I think the history of the 18th vs 30 something picks is probably in favor of the 18th. I mean Al J was available around 15 last year and if we hadn't picked him he might have slid down further. Plus I'm not sure these 2nd rounders would be much better than Justin Reed. I lean away from that. Plus I don't want to help the Lakers. Maybe if the picks were 31 and 32.

now that the day is here i find myself wanting to move up to get a top player no matter what... maybe its just the draft getting to me but i really kinda want a big name player... if marvin williams slips to 3 and we could make a deal i think i would do it... or if we could get paul or felton i would do it... pierce is my fav player but so was nomar when the red sox dealt him and i got over it and look what the team did after that...

www.nba.com/celtics/news/DannyPress_20050624.htmlThis is a link to the full briefing DA had with the press on the 24th. I think it especially interesting for those of you obsessed witht he PG issue. he says he can be very comfortable with Banks and West in th e 1-2 slots on PG. But does want a 3rd guy. Also, he seemed more tentative about the NBDL than I expectred. Good reading. Some of which has been picked up. But I don't remember seeing the whole thing.
