just needed to release some pent up air in my head. the new york yankees, who seem to just buy their championships every year, have once again set the bar so high that other teams can't help but shake their heads in despair.
they just made a trade for alex rodriguez, arguably the best player in baseball. not only can they afford to take on his 7 year - 189 million dollar contract, but they can also afford to have their team payroll at an astonishing 200 million dollars this year!!!
many teams barely get by with a 70 million dollar payroll, and even that's exceeding their limitations.
how can major league baseball allow such unregulated bullying to continue? the rich win the mega bucks, while the poor continue to watch from the outside.
my baltimore orioles made significant moves this offseason to try to reach the level of the yankees, or try to. but with A-Rod now with the yankees, they just turned on the after burners and torched us to ashes.
this is truly not fair, at all.

i feel with ya Derren. The same situation is ruining the soccer competitions in Europe. No form of salary cap & a couple of teams that win it every season. If you're unlucky enough to root for a team with far less resources, it becomes less & less interesting to watch. From time to time your team gets a couple of talented players where you could built upon, but those guys are immediately bought by the richer clubs and you're back to square zero.

exactly. what about small market teams who are already at the bottom, who draft good players only to lose them when they start becoming good to teams who just spend money as if it grew on trees. its an endless cycle. bad teams remain bad because they don't have the money to spend on FA's and they lose their good players to teams who can spend all they want.
something needs to be done to prevent teams from spending outrageous amonuts of money. more excitement will come from more teams being able to compete.

Yea small markets like Montreal and Pittsburgh should be good. I do like the braves though. The new york yankees are even worse than the lakers with their pickups. But LA is the devils team for the NBA still. The yankees don't excuse LA as being good either.
