This year's PG crop is pretty solid. Not exactly the powerhouse it was back in '03 when there was Ford, Hinrich, Ridnour, Banks, and Barbosa, but Paul, Felton, Jack, and Deron Williams make a pretty strong class. Also, Roko Leni-Ukic is sounding like a terrific player with size and ability, as well as Rudy Fernandez.
Aside from the top 4 PG's (Paul, Felton, Jack, Williams), who may all go in the lottery, I don't see any reason to move up in the draft to take a PG. Roko might be available at 18, and I hope Ainge has scouted him to know whether he really has game or not.
But lately, I've been engulfed in this Sarunas Jakavicious rumor and have been thinking of the possibility of signing him as our starting PG. This way, we can use the 18th to draft a proven collegiate like Garcia or Simien, or take a risk on a high schooler like Martell Webster, or take a homerun cut on Nemanja Alexandrov. Delonte can learn under Sarunas and develop his PG skills more to possibly take over the starting spot in a year or so.

SJ would be a nice starting PG for us. God, I hope DA can find a way to trade up and grab Felton. Oh man, would I be happy!

Yeah, getting a top PG like Felton would be a tremendous lift toward our future success. On top of that, getting a veteran PG like Jaskevicious would be another terrific addition. If this were to happen, trading Banks would be the only thing to do. We can't have 3 PG's trying to learn how to be a PG in the NBA.

Its gonna be years and years until #17 is reached so keep fantasizing about these "excellent" scenarios.

I am thinking there are only 3 ways to move up in this draft to grab a point-guard:
>trade Pierce >trade Davis & our pick >sign/trade Walker and our pick
Felton will not get passed Charlotte, w/ the NC connection unless they trade up for Paul. Jack could be available. Also, I thought Fernandez was more like a SG than a PG.

ONLY because this draft is weak, A re-signed Walker and the 18 could get us the 9th or 10th pick and say someone like Rose seeing NY is around that area.

Would Walker agree to such a deal? Why would he? He's a FA with enough years in to pick the team he plays for. Most likely there would be a 'no-trade' or a 'buy-out' in his contract.

I don't think this is a weak draft at all. Several 4-year college players going in the second round. Yes, its not a "can't miss draft", but now a days most drafts don't have more than 1 can't miss player.

What I mean is the top picks are not like past top picks. The later picks are more likely to work out. Disagree with me all you want but this draft will be like 2001. WIth late 1st rounders turning out better than a top 15 player. On 2nd rd guys, we're too low in the 2nd round. I thought we had one of GS's picks (40th through phx in the cabarkapa trade) plus the 50 and 53rd no? 40 isn't a bad area to be in but 50-53rd comes harder for decent players.

Since we are picking #18, that is good news for us. ;D
I think after the top3 players, there is a drop. Alot depends on the players in the later round, if they can prove they are not undersized players, tweeners, or players better suited for the NBA.

According to Draftcity, Felton's stock has been rising very quickly, and he could be targeted in the 4 - 7 range. Many think he's moved up ahead of Deron Williams (as if there was any doubt) and is now the 2nd PG in the draft, after Chris Paul. Many are having a hard time finding any weaknesses in his game.
Hearing this makes me extremely happy, but I also know that this makes it incredibly tough to get him without moving up into the top 8.
C'mon Danny. Make this happen. A stud PG is going to do wonders for our future.

Derren, drop the Felton issue. NOT HAPPENING. I say stick with West and Banks or get a pg to trade for one in the offseason or draft one in the 2nd round. This team needs a true sf. Not many good pf's to pick from.

I have no problem with using West and Banks at 1.

I think after the top3 players, there is a drop. i disagree here, i think there's a drop of hype about the players after a.bogut, m.williams, c.paul. but i honestly think that deron or felton will be as good players as will chris paul. but never mind the less hype the better are our chances. i still don't believe that gm's believe in hype, like babcock believed in araujo. mind-boggling

Actually, wait for Araujo to develop. I really liked what I saw from him in college 2 years ago. A naturally bulky Big man who has a good scoring touch around the rim. He's got talent and he's got the bulk to give him an advantage. Think of a version Brad Miller who likes to score inside with Potapenko's crushing body. Now add in some agility and you'll start to get an idea of Araujo.
As for Deron Williams, he's a late first round pick who's being hyped to go in the early lottery. He's a good PG, but not as good as they are making him out to be. I think his size is helping him out some, but his overall abilities are not off the charts. As a comparison, I felt that Jameer Nelson had more talent and playmaking ability than Deron Williams has, but because Jameer is under 6 feet, his stock fell and he ultimately suffered a humbling experience by being left in the green room until the 20th pick after being projected to go in the lottery.
I think its a big mistake that many scouts are saying Deron is going to be taken higher than Felton.
