Talk about going after the homerun with the 18th pick, Nemanja Alexandrov could be just the guy to make Ainge look like a genius. Nemanja was hyped up to be a potential #1 pick this year, but with an ACL injury (which he had surgery for in March) and with limited playing time for his team (Serbia?), his stock has fallen.
I've only seen a few action shots of him, so I can't tell you much. He's a 6'10 - 6'11" SF, who supposedly has a beautiful and fluid jumper with a high release. And despite being close to 7 feet, he is said to have excellent athleticism and quickness, legitely able to be a SF in the NBA. Long and lanky like Gasol, but more of a wing player. Scouts say he's a good slasher and has good explosiveness and he's an excellent fast break player.
His weaknesses are said to be his attitude. Doesn't have that killer attitude. Same thing was said about Joe Johnson, but he's doing alright without having that "lion" personality, huh? Nemanja needs a lot of time in the gym--but who doesn't?
I like his potential as a player. Having a SF who's just a tad under 7 feet who can shoot, slash, run the break, and play the post is going to give us a big advantage over many team's SF's. Plus, with his attitude not being the me-me type, he could be the team player type we are hoping to acquire.

Drafting Alexandrov could be good. Wouldn't it be great to have a tall, atheletic SF that Danny and Doc have always wanted?

I doubt Nemanja is going to stay in this draft with his stock dropping rapidly. Unless, you heard something about him staying in?

Well, with the possibility of the NBA permitting only players above 20 yrs old to enter the draft, I think it will push Nemanja, and a whole lot of other younger players, to enter the draft now. I haven't read anything about Nemanja pulling out.

I don't see him on nbadraft.net. Perhaps they feel he is pulling out.

Yeah, I doubt he'll stay in the draft. He could be a potential top 5 pick next year, so I doubt he'll pass up on that.

Again, David Stern may set an age limit this year to ban players younger than 20 from entering the draft. Nemanja is only 18 so if he doesn't come out this year, he won't be able to come in until 2007. Weighing his options, I think if he could be an 18th pick, he'd take it.

www.hoopshype.com/interviews/aleksandrov_sierra.htm-date March 29, 2005 Interview with Nemanja. Do you feel ready for the challenge of the NBA?
NA: We'll see. I don't know, I'm not sure. Maybe I should stay two or three years playing for an European club here to get ready. I don't know. He also coming off an ACL injury too.

He also coming off an ACL injury too. Good point. He might come to a team and hold back so not to injure again. Hard to say with the medical field so tuned in to athletic injuries.

Pulling out of the draft is definitely a possibility. But until he says he's not coming out this year, we should assume that he is.

MJ, I am thinking the same. I think if Webster is available, Danny goes that direction, if not he looks at Rudy Fernandez. Then, secound round he looks for which college players are left like J Williams, L Roberts, L Head, J Hodge, etc.

This draft is weak so Danny has to even look harder to find a gem. The college game is surely watered down.

I am tired of 18 year old Euros who averaged 6 points a game and didn't get a lot of playing time cause they weren't good enough in Europe. Potential means one thing. You aren't good now. He's another Darko. The only reason to pick him is at one time he was rated as a possible number 1 overall in 2006. so was Darko. They were both overrated. I think the whole Euro fad can die out any day now. It would be nice to see these 18 year old Euros go up against our 18 year olds. Then we could compare apples and apples.
