It seems like it's a done deal tonight at least that Sam is coming here. I'm not saying either way. He could be our Dennis Johnson or our Corey Dillon for a year or two or he could be a real pain in the butt imo. Me personally I thought our backup guards were consistantly fine for 10-15 minutes a game handling pressure. Sure they fumbled the ball from time to time but how many times were we really affected by the press? I think there was one game and everyone panicked and we were fine after that. My only concern is do the benefits outweigh the negatives here. I know Cassell can play. I know he is one of the clutchest players of recent history. I know he is one of the most underrated players around. I know people question his attitude. Say he shoots it too much, dribbles too much, and his ego is a bit out of whack and he won't play second fiddle to rajon. I don't so much. I just think he is a competitor. I think cassell is the type of guy where if things are going well and he is playing a significant role everything is roses with Sam. But is bringing Cassell here really worth it? I'm asking. PJ Brown I don't think poses these same questions. Cassell does imo because he is a guy that is going to be taking time away from Rajon potentially. He can also score 30 a game and take the ball out of Ray, Pierce and KG's and Rajon's hands in clutch situations.

My first choice was Lue. He is one of KG's best friends and from all reports a great locker room guy and teammate. He is a very good defender and would have fit right in. But, since Sam is apparently Danny's choice, I am fine with it. Sam gives us a bigger PG to match up better with PG's like Billups. My only concern is if the wasn't being truthful when he said he didn't mind backing up Rondo and would be happy with 10-15 mpg. If he wants more, then it isn't a good signing because Rondo needs to have at least 30 mpg. Rondo could benefit from having Cassell in practice and backing him up as long as Cassell doesn't want too many minutes and doesn't want to take over the team.

It's a great signing but i hope Sam isn't the one closing out every single game...Rondo has been the point guard of this team to this point closing out games and we're 46-12...I hope Sam doesn't automatically close out games since he can score and what not..We see the progress Rondo is making, i don't want to stop that by sitting him in crucial periods of the game...I like the PJ signing better than the Cassell signing also, but it's still a nice signing..I don't think Sam will be a much better defender than Rondo on Billups though...I think we may as well assign Tony to Billups and see what happens...

The thing I like about this signing is that it shows that Ainge is willing to go the extra mile. He has done that all year and that is the difference between winning and losing sometimes. We could have been happy with Jefferson and building for a few more years. We got Garnett. We could have been happy drafting a good young player, we got Ray Allen. We could have been happy bringing in someone specifically to fill these roles liek Lue or Stoudemire. We got Cassell. My only concern is I think Cassell is going to play a bigger role then people think. He isn't going to be playing 10-15 mpg. He is going to play 20 minutes and increasing as we get closer to the playoffs and deeper in more like 25-30. I dont know if he'll take rondo's minutes but he is going to play quite a bit. It's going to be a Corey Dillon, Laurence Maroney timeshare as I see it. The closest situation I can think of in NBA terms is toronto with Calderon and Ford. Now that fords back calderon gets like 25-30 and Ford gets 20-25. We will probably have a similar situation here.

I agree. This is why I think it would have been a waste getting someone specifically to fill that role. I would have rathered jsut go with what we have. Cassell is a guy we brought in and the right guy I'm thinking because he is a player who can really make a difference. We didn't bring him here to play 10-15 mpg. I think he is going to play a much larger role than that.
Ainge has put his stamp on this team imo and is doing everything he set out to do and said he would do, bringing in one difference maker after the other. Now all we need is 17 and his mission will be complete.

I don't think Cassell would affect Rondo's minutes like a lot of people view this situation. In fact, i think the loser in this situation would have to be Eddie House as he won't be seeing his 20 minutes per game that he did in the past. He'll play more of a 3-point specialist role i.e. put him in to see if he get hot or not otherwise keep him locked on the bench. You could see situation where both Sam and Rondo are on the court at the same time as rondo becomes more of a slasher than a creator depending on the situation.

come on is there anyone that can think that Sam can't help, Rondo play well now, but makes a lotta turnovers, what about the playoffs he will bust every second offence in the best case, he will s*** his shorts once when Billups go against him, Billups can use his experience to Rajon, and his body too, he is 50 pounds above Rajon, the final result is Billups makes everythink what he wants on the court, Rondo will do 5ppg, 3rpg, 5apg, he ABSOLUTELY CAN'T guard Chaunsey, we need veteran guard with good deffence against him, Cassell is that guy

Cassell cannot stop Billups...Cassell was not brought here to be a defensive stopper...

Cassell is brought here to contribute the ball, because in playoffs Rondo will not make it even to the half court, he will make at least 20 turnovers per game, that's the Cassell effect on the team, bring experience, and less turnovers from Rondo in the hot moments in 4th quarter of the games

that's not his role on the team, he need just to contribute the ball at the end of the playoff games, and he never do the stupid turnovers that Rondo doing

Sam is definitely worth it. I see him reducing Rondo's, House, and the Allen's minutes. This guy is a prime time play-off player.

I like Cassell, though he better not be the player taking the last second shot (the team has 3 of those that are ready for that one).
