As the final minutes dwindled down I couldn't help but just be saddened by last night's game. It was a similar feeling I had when the Patriots looked as if their first loss would come against the Ravens. The outcome of the game was not going to change my opinion of how good the Patriots were, but I knew that 16-0 was not going to be reached. This loss might end up being the one that ruins our chance at going 73-9, which is the main reason people are going to be disappointed.
With that said, this game has absolutely no impact on where the Celtics stand in the NBA this season. Mainly because even as bad as we played, and as bad as the refs were, this game would have been won if Ray Allen and Glenn Davis were in the lineup. This game also gave us a glimpse of how important Ray Allen is to this team. Our offense was miserable all night, and had Ray Allen been in the lineup, our offensive flow would have been better.
More importantly, the Bobcats played amazing. This will happen, and this is why 72-10 is such an impressive number. No matter how well you play defensively, sometimes teams will hit shots no matter what you do. Jason Richardson was hitting contested fadeaways, Gerald Wallace was banking in 3 pointers, and the Celtics can assume zero responsibility for this. Ray Allen could have definitely helped counter this. We can always pinpoint little things in a loss, we did enough of that last year. However these little mishaps are displayed in any game, win or lose. They are just forgotten in wins, overshadowed by what it took to win the game. I don't think the C's took a step back in this game, just as the Spurs should not be concerned since most of their losses have come this season without a fully healthy lineup. All in all, people should not panic, remember we had just won 9 in a row. All good things come to an end, we just need to rebounc, which we will.
