"They're a little more happy than we were when we won our game at their place. It was just a regular game for us with two good teams playing. They were kind of playing like it was the Super Bowl." -Billups
This is the type of comment I expect when my obnoxiously incoherent, always drunk and always overweight uncle comes over. This was the type of comment I made thousands of times after losing to my neighbor in backyard football, at AGE 10! This is the type of comment that would make me extremely nervous if I were a Detroit fan.
This reminds me of the commercial where the small business is about to expand and the owner is getting overwhelmed and expresses concern that they are going to have to change the way they are doing things. His associate calmly replies "isn't that kind of the idea." Well Chauncey, isn't that kind of the idea? To play every game like it is the super bowl. Since when did that become a negative? More importantly why aren't you playing every game like that? I mean you do collect a paycheck every week right?
Saying this game meant nothing is as stupid as saying the Dallas - Patriots game in week 6 meant nothing. Momentum, confidence, pride...these are all huge intangibles to winning a championship, and coming together as a team. The Patriots stole those intangibles away from Dallas in week 6, and those same things were on the line last night in Detroit. The Pistons had a chance to really put a damper on what's been a magical season for the Boston Celtics. A second loss to Detroit would have turned the tables on this whole season. All year Pierce, Garnett and Allen would have been listening to how they are a great team, but they can't beat the Pistons. These things affect players, you are silly to think otherwise. Billups knows this, he's too experienced and too smart not too. So for him to come out and make these comments, we know one thing. We have rattled Billups, and now he's resorting to comments like this to try and retaliate. Well that may have worked on my 10 year old neighbor, but they ain't gonna fly here. Have a nice day Chauncey.
