How can we not overlook the lowly Memphis Grizzlies? The game Saturday against the Pistons is probably the most anticipated Eastern Conference regular season matchup since the PIstons/Bulls days. Since the season started, I haven't felt that any of our games have really been "must win" games, or measuring sticks for this teams progress. Saturday this all changes. The Pistons are the hottest team in the NBA right now, and they are the only team to beat us at home this season.
If we drop this game, I will have to tip my hat at this stage and declare the Pistons the better team. I didn't feel that way the first time, even though that game was at home. But having dropped one already, makes this game that much more meaningful. If we lose, the Pistons have beaten us twice and will probably have notched 13 in a row (assuming they handle Toronto on Friday). Either way, with both teams playing so well, it is hard to believe that we wont be playing for the Eastern Conference Finals. It is a great feeling to be in this position as a fan, however a loss on Saturday will be heartbreaking.

I 100% agree. If we dont beat the Pistons on their home court to avenge our home court loss I will be heart broken and also question whether this team can really get out of the ECF, let alone beat the Wests best. Still, what this team has been able to do this season is remarkable. Compared to last season its almost impossible.

I have to respectfully disagree. I think this is a much more important game for us, the fans, then for our guys in green. As a matter of pride they want this game badly, of that there can be no doubt. However betwen saturday and the playoffs is an entire season of ball to be played, and the Celtics will only get better over that span of time as they continue how to learn to play with one another. Saturday isn't a must win or even that important in the grand scheme of things. Don't get me wrong I want our guys to win in the worst possible way, I just don't think a loss to Detroit signifies anything other than that. I do expect Detroit to exploit the bench when Rondo is off the floor.

While I agree to a certain extent that we have the rest of the season to get better. So does Detroit. Boston has shown a little bit of fatigue vs Houston and looks a little sluggish here vs the Griz. With the big 3 getting heavy minutes tonight, tomorrow is gonna be a battle against a good team and tiredness. I guess I personally take this game to be at least more of a challenge and important than most of the games we've played so far and will play until we hit the home courts of some western teams like the Spurs. Beating Detroit here gives our guys a mental boost for when, undoubtedly, they meet in the ECFinals. Detroit just beat Toronto tonight as well, so I hope they are unprepared for us tomorrow.

Findawgg, I said: "If we drop this game, I will have to tip my hat at this stage and declare the Pistons the better team."
In no way was I suggesting that this game would define who the better team was for the season. "At this stage" means at this point. Of course things can change, but it is still a measuring stick, one that I would rather be on the better end of, and I'm sure the players would agree.

I agree that Boston has looked sluggish of late, they look sluggish against Detroit at this point in the first half. My point with regards to the progression was that Boston has a completely revamped roster compared to last season to include a new coach that is teaching them a very new way to play defense. I know that Detroit will get better as time goes on, but they don't have to iron out the things that Boston has to. --Fin

Oh I agree Fin. I dont think I understood what you said. In any case, none of it matters since Boston just gave Detroit a taste of their own medicine and the game has proved we are the team to beat.
