The Celtics are 26 and 3 - That hasn't happened since that 68 win team in 72-73
Compare that team with this one -
Cowens C Perkins (Advantage 1973)
Garnett PF Havlicek (Draw)
Pierce SF Nelson (Advantage 2008)
Ray Allen SG Don Cheney (Advantage 2008)
Rondo PG Jo Jo White (Advantage 1973)
Posey 6th Silas (Advantage 1973)
Bench 7th-12th Bench (Advantage 1973)
Rivers Coach Hiensohn (Advantage 1973)
The Celtics of 1973 went 68-14 in a much tougher and evenly matched smaller league when everyone had Centers. The same cannot be said for today's NBA. The players, while they are stronger and quicker, are not as smart as yesterday's players. The Celtics of 1973 lost to the Knicks in 1973 when Havlicek went down with a seperated shoulder.
Todays Celtics most closely resemble that fine team of 1973. The same team was together for three more years and won their 12th championship in 1974 and the their 13th in 1976. Silas moved onto to Seattle after the 1976 season and that ended Boston's 2nd window of opportunity to win championships.
