"BOSTON (AP) - Paul Pierce scored 15 of his 22 points in the third quarter, going 4-for-4 from 3-point range in the third before sitting out the fourth on Friday night as the Boston Celtics pulled away from the Chicago Bulls to win 107-82.
Recovering quickly from their only home loss of the season, Boston never trailed in the game and never gave up its double-digit lead after scoring 10 consecutive points to make it 40-22 with 7:50 left in the first half. Pierce added seven rebounds and Ray Allen scored 18 for the Celtics, who still have the best record in the NBA (21-3) despite Wednesday's last-second loss to the Detroit Pistons.
Ben Gordon scored 19 for Chicago, and rookie Aaron Gray had 14 to reach a career-high for his second consecutive game filling in for the injured Ben Wallace. Tyrus Thomas grabbed nine rebounds for the Bulls, who had won eight straight against Boston before losing in their first matchup this season.
Chicago seemed to have the answer for Pierce, holding him to 10 points or fewer in three of the previous four games - including a season-low eight points twice last year. Guarded by Luol Deng, Pierce missed five of his first seven shots on Friday before getting on target in the third, hitting three 3-pointers and three free throws in a six minute span that helped Boston turn a 16-point lead into an 84-61 blowout.
Kevin Garnett, who had 12 points and seven rebounds, also sat out the entire fourth quarter. Garnett had a scare late in the first half when he was poked in the right eye by Joakim while fighting for a rebound; he did not leave the game.
Wallace missed his second consecutive game with bone spurs in his left foot.
Boston led by as many as 22 points in the first half."
Pierce- 6/11 FG 22pts 7reb
Great rebound game for Pierce, made 4/4 threes in the 3rd quarter and pretty much secured the game for us in that quarter...
Ray Ray 6/14 FG 18pts 4ast. Nice game from Ray..He's starting to improve his shooting and is showing nice drvies
Garnett 3/6 FG 12pts 7reb 5ast. Solid all around game by Garnett..Some great passes to Perk, tho his stats are small you could credit Perk's stats to Garnett basically...
Perkins 4/5 FG 12pts 4reb Nice statisical game for him but he was usually wide open when he took shots and showed poor offensive moves and couldn't shut down Gray on defense
Rondo 3/10 FG 7pts 7reb 4ast Has some nice passes to Pierce but since Gordon was guarding him for most of the game he seemed to not be aggressive, a little dissapointed...
Posey 4/7 FG 11pts 4reb Nice boost of the bench especially considering the slump the bench had agaisnt the Pistons
House 1/5 FG 4pts 6reb 4ast Didn't provide scoring like expected but played great defense and made some nice plays..
Tony 4/9 FG 12pts 5reb Great job off the bench and showed some of his old explosiveness..Made a three..too bad he's inconsistent with his shot...
My Vote is going to go to Pierce..I think a variety of guys could've deserved it but i'm going to give it to Pierce because he took us for a ride in the 3rd quarter and rebounded from a crappy game agaisnt the Pistons which i'm sure he was pissed about..So for rebounding so strongly( And outplaying Deng on the offensive and defensive end, usually has trouble with Deng) i'm going to give him my vote...
