"Chauncey Billups hit two free throws with one-tenth of a second left and the Detroit Pistons handed the Celtics their first home loss of the season, 87-85 on Wednesday night.
The Celtics (20-3) had matched their best start ever, also achieved by the 1963-64 team that eventually won the NBA title. Boston had won its first 12 home games, its most since a club-record 17 by the 1957-58 squad.
Billups, who scored 12 of his team-high 28 points in the final quarter, was fouled by Tony Allen. On the previous possession, Billups' turnover gave the Celtics a chance to grab the lead.
Richard Hamilton added 21 points for Detroit (18-7) in a matchup of the Eastern Conference's top teams.
Kevin Garnett led the Celtics with 26 points and Ray Allen, who returned after missing the last two games because of a sore right ankle, had 24, including a game-tying 3-pointer with 18.9 seconds to play.

Was an amazing game but obviously ended in an ugly way..No way should you ever lose when your tied with 5.1 seconds and have the ball..At least make sure the time runs out so they don't get another chance...
Garnett- 9/15FGS 26pts 12reb Great game but he did kind of dissapear in the 4th quarter
Ray 9/13FGS 24pts 5reb Huge game especially after missing 2 games..Amazing shots, game, and dunk
Rondo 7/10FGS 14pts 7ast Awesome 1st half, but unluckily we couldn't see him abuse Billups more or see if he could in the second half because of the refs...
Pierce 5/16FGS 11pts 4ast. 4reb. Never into the game, shouldn't driven to the net more just like on the final play..Celts seemed to force it to Pierce for some odd reason and never realized Pierce was just losing it as they kept forcing it...
Bench was nonexistant...Posey had 0pts and no effect on the game which isn't a good sign..Baby got 0pts..And the bench as a whole had 5pts..Not good...
My vote goes to Ray Ray for coming back and playing spectacular...He shot 9/13 which is great since he's shooting pretty poorly lately and hit amazing contested shots...Tough loss but we're still 20-3 and getting better
