Among all the good things that happened to the Celtics this year, Glen Davis is sure one of them. In that same draft day, we got both Ray Allen and Big Baby, and although we lost Delonte and Wally, that was definitely a good transaction for us...
Big Baby sometimes remembers me of Big Al's first Celtics years - a big talent waiting to explode. Here I compare the numbers of the first NBA seasons of Perk, Al and Davis. Big Al's numbers were impressive for such a young player, but with the right development and playing time i think Big Baby can get at least near to Al's level. He's got potential, he's in a great team, with the right enviroment and he's got the right mental approach. He sure is exceeding my expectations and, although he should be an inch or two to play at 5, we will become a dominant PF and even a C within 2 or 3 years.
K.Perkins first season: 2.2pts, 1.4rbs, 3.5min second season: 2.5pts, 2.9rbs, 9.1min 07-08: 7pts, 4.9rbs, 24.2min
A.Jefferson first: 6.7pts, 4.4rbs, 14.8min second: 7.9pts, 5.1rbs, 18min 07-08: 20.1pts, 11.5rbs, 36.5mpg
G.Davis 07-08: 5.1pts, 3.6rbs, 13.5min

I dont think BBD will ever reach Big Al's status. I dont think has enough talent to overcome his lack of height. I'd say best case scenario for him would be a Clarence Weatherspoon-type player, which is certainly nothing to sneeze at.

He has to dunk and block more more. And I'm serious about it, because of his size he is not that intimidating, but if he can get a little bit more in shape (moving away from antoine's physique and more toward a 270 frame he has the potential to be a good player 12-14 ppg 8-9 boards.

Kool aid on the Clarence Weatherspoon. I would never have thought of that. I gotta ask myself who's the best overweight guy that ever played. I was not into Big Baby for the same reason as Tractor Traylor but he has proven me wrong.
One thing to point out about those stats is that Perk and Al were out of high school. Davis is out of three years in the SEC. They were far less prepared. Perk hardly even played that year.

Oliver Miller was a decent fat dude. But yeah Davis will be a real decent role player who will be mobile and offer a lot of things you cannot get on a stat sheet. I'd say baby has the P-word to be a 10 and 8 player. Who knows, maybe a bit more.

currently Al is only 22 and Baby is 21 so counting their first years isn't the most accurate but Big Baby was definetly a steal in the 2nd round he'll be a solid player but Al is on a different level, all-star level..Big Baby's height and short arms will always hold him back unless he becomes a more SF type of player but i don't really want him to lose lots of weight because he's effective as he is now because of that weight...Simply put, Baby is a huge reason why our bench is sooo much better than the "experts" were saying claiming it was too weak..look at us now with House, Posey, Baby, and Tony Allen coming up huge all year...

Neither Baby, nor Perk, will ever reach Big Al's caliber. They just don't have Big Al's talents.
As for Baby vs. Perk, its a toss up, depending on what you want more of. If you want defense, then of course you go with Perkins. But if you want the energy and charisma, you go with Baby. Baby provides better offense, as he has a better nose for the basket than Perk.
If we could morph both Perk and Baby together, we'd get a pretty good player. Perk's size with Baby's game--still wouldn't come close to Big Al, but its getting there.
