I must admit that my blood was flowing all day, at the prospect of the Lakers coming to town last night, although the reality never approached the anticipation, as put so well by our this weeks guest; Mike Fine, the Celtics writer for the "Patriot Ledger," in his 11/24 column.
Mike has been around forever; he has to be excited that this team has emulated some of the great C's teams of the past, with their assist to made basket ratio (31-39 last night) and the fg% allowed, but he's not going to be fooled by the level of opponent, especially the ones in the blue and gold jerseys that showed up last night, to woo the celebrities.
Yep, like Arnold, the Lakers have seen better days, while the Celtics are the "talk of the town."
Just what does Mike think of this Celtics team? How far does he think they will go?
With over 30 years of following the team on a daily basis, we figure he's a pretty reliable source, as we all wonder, just how high is up?
We hope you will join us.
BOSTON - They’ve been talking a lot about rivalries this week, so it must be true, especially considering that California Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger, and his wife, Maria Shriver, were seated at courtside, as was actress Ellen Pompeo, actor/athlete Rick Fox and several Patriots, including Ellis Hobbs, Richard Seymour and Adalius Thomas. The beautiful people come to beautiful games.....................
Well, those of us who have seen, breathed and lived the Boston-LA rivalry know full well that this isn’t it. The Celtics talked a lot about a playoff atmosphere Friday night after their 107-94 defeat of the Lakers, but it’s fairly obvious that the Lakers have some catching up to do.
That’s because the Celtics put on a veritable clinic at times, something the old versions of the teams rarely did. The Lakers received their usual 28 points from Kobe Bryant, but after that, it was rather bleak.

They were also happy to get what they think is a taste of this so-called Celtics-Lakers rivalry thing. ‘‘It was definitely what I expected,’’ Allen said. ‘‘I could see it on people’s faces in the building. They were very rabid about this game and the history that follows the two franchises. To see a lot of celebrities ... Pats players ... in the building, it definitely adds to the intrigue of the arena.’’
‘‘I anticipated it to be what it was,’’ Garnett said. ‘‘It felt like a playoff game atmosphere. The building has a lot of energy to begin with, and it was great.’’
If only they, and so many of the younger fans in the building understand what a genuine Celtics-Lakers rivalry is like. They simply have no clue.
