Pierce fouls Lewis on the inbounds. Lewis suprisingly misses the 1st free throw. Makes the second. C's down by 2 with 7.2

Celtics lose a close game, 104-102. Down by 16 at the half, made it really close. The Magic is a solid team, w/ Howard and Lewis. And Nelson played well.

Pierce takes a contested and the C's lose their first game of the year. It was a hard fought game. We just didn't execute in the 1st half and got in foul trouble way too early.

The Magic are a good team. Howard is a beast. We can beat them though.

Checking in on hubby's computer. A couple of things. We walked the ball up in the first half with no urgency. They ran at every chance. Allen is trying to create his own shot and isn't very good at it. Playing 40+ minutes a game has taken his legs out from under his jumper and what used to be automatic is iffy now. The Magic are a very very good team. Howard is the top center in the NBA now. With apologies to Perk, the guy is a beast. Nelson is a very good PG and Lewis complements Howard. With Turkoglu able to hit the 3 off the bench, they are a tough team. We weren't ready to play in the first half and dug a hole we couldn't quite claw out of. That said, we still had 3 chances to win that game in the last seconds and just didn't get it done. Too many fouls, too many turnovers. And, our defense wasn't there the first half. We let them get to the hoop way too many times.

Turnovers killed us last night, particularly in the 1st half. But we still had open look 3's in the last minute to steal the game from Orlando.
No complaints, This is not football where one game = 6.67% of your season. In all liklihood we will lose at least 20 games but if they are all competitive like last night, this team is in good shape.

If the Celtics played like they played in the second half the whole game we would have won the game. We played horribly in the first half. I was very impressed with Rondo though. He didn't hesitate to shoot the ball and his jumpers looked really good. All that work is paying off and last night should give him more confidence in his jumper.
One thing that bugs me is Doc playing KG at center and going small ball. KG is not a center. He has stated more than once he doesn't like playing center. It is not his natural position and Doc is at it again, not playing to players strengths. We have Perk, Pollard, Big Baby and Powe who can all play the 5. Granted, BB and Powe are undersized but they are strong and play the position quite well. KG should not have to play out of position where he is not comfortable.

I would have liked to have seen us try to get a better look at the end, but for an "off" day we sure came close to winning anyway.
Plus, I don't think I've ever seen Howard held to 6 boards. We outrebounded them well enough, but our decision making at times left something to be desired.
