The old adage in baseball is; you build a team with good defense up the middle. You have a good defensive catcher, a good defensive combo at SS and 2b, and a good defensive CF'er. You fill the corner spots with guys who have power, who can drive in their teammates.
That's sort of what we've got with our team. We have terrific defensive players at the bookends (Rajon at the 1 and Perk at the 5), and we got the power players between the two bookends (our Trilogy).
Of course, with Thibodeau, we have a team focused on defense, which makes it even sweeter. We still have our high powered offense, but we also have the defense to put us over the top.

Thibodeau might be the most understated addition this offseason. Our defense has been great. Having someone like Garnett to execute it, helps as well. But the defense has been the most noticeable difference to me. I loved how when we were up 20 or 30 or whatever and we called a timeout, they said not one guy was talking about offense. They knew they could score points. Everyone was saying continue to get stops.

A defensive minded coach + veterans who can play defense = a lot of happy Celtics fans.
The past few years, we were too young to play smart defense, and we didn't have a defensive coach as good as Tom Thibodeau (sorry Tony Brown and Doc). Not only did Ainge strike gold with Garnett and RAllen, but he also hit the jackpot with Thib. For certain, Ainge is in the running for GM of the Year--even if we end up runners up to the championship title.

I think if we go from last years record to hte finals and Ainge doesn't win GM of the year something is wrong.

Who else has done so much to improve the team than Ainge? I think he's a shoe in--as long as we don't implode and lose a bunch of games.

Nice post DM! ! ! It's so true and to the point that I have little to add. Derren, Did you end up getting the NBA Ticket? I did and love it. Well worth the 160 bucks.

Yep, I got League Pass. I've been watching the games online. I only wish they can show archived games beyond the 48 hour window. Or allow me to record the games onto a junk drive so I can watch it again later. I want to be able to watch these games during the offseason. Anyone know if this is possible?
