Let me introduce a guy we've had for a while. His name is Paul Pierce. Tonight it was Pierce. Other nights it will be Ray Allen. Other nights it will be Garnett. This is why our bench is all roleplayers and has no clear 6th man. It all makes sense now... Pierce has been superman for 8 years here and he can cover the 6th man role for a few minutes and take over and be the guy and he did it tonight. We really should rotate these guys who stays out there with the bench and that guy should be instructed to be the offensive igniter during that stretch. our bench played well but it was really Pierce.
Anyways with about 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter Pierce went to the bench. Leaving Garnett and Allen out there with the bench. He then sat Garnett and Allen and brought Pierce back out there with the bench to start the 2nd quarter and immediately hit a 3. This was great by Doc. Allen had a good stretch to end the 1st quarter and the Pierce really sparked this team in the 2nd.

I would like to see the three play together, however I think one of the three needs to be on the court to provide leadership, as well as direction.

That's what I'm saying though. I'm not saying make him the 6th man. The first 9 minutes of the game, Pierce, Garnett and Allen were out there. During the bench's stretch, they split time who was out there. Pierce sat for the first 3 minutes. And then the quarter break and played the entire 2nd quarter. Garnett and Allen sat to start the 2nd quarter but came back down the stretch. That's teh way these guys should be rotated although it can be changed up who is out there at what time. The point is one of the 3 should be on the court at all times, so there is no need for a 6th man.

Posey or House? Not sure I understand you version of a 6th-man... 1st player off the bench or not?

Posey or House? Not sure I understand you version of a 6th-man... 1st player off the bench or not? 6th man in basketball is the first player off the bench that probably could start, but serves a role off the bench to provide energy (usually offense). House could be a 6th man as well, if he can hit the 3.

I was speaking hypothetically.. the point was the offense is going to be centered around whoever is left on the floor. Pierce, or Allen or Garnett basically become that when the bench is in. That's the nice thing about having 3 stars is one of them should always be out there. We have guys that provide offense but we don't have a clear offensive 6th man. Davis may be that someday but he's not yet. We dont really use a true 6th man where we hae a guy come in that is a go to guy. We are more of a team oriented bench and in theory the star player that stays on the floor becomes the focal point. Posey is our 6th man right now. House is decent as well. They are basically our 2 best bench players right now along with Scalabrine. Posey is our 1st player off the bench and he provides energy on the defensive and offensive end. But I was more talking about who becomes the focal point of the offense and the goto guy. The thing is we have been playing such great team oriented basketball, even our stars are sharing hte ball with Pierce, GArnett, Allen obviously being hte focal points.... In the 1st game of the season it was pierce who carried the offense when the bench was in.
There are actually very few true 6th men in the league these days. Everyone wants to be a starter and you have very few guys that really thrive in that role and want to be that. A true 6th man is a dying breed. Maxiell is becoming one but he may be starting soon. Millsapp is another. Nene is pretty much that with Martin back. VArejoa was that for the cavs last year. Posey is our 6th man and he's a good one who fits in well with what we need in a 6th man. Plus he understands his role. I'm hoping Davis becomes a guy like that as well and is more of an offensive, rebounding kind of energy 6th man type. House is basically the instant offense shooter. Scal is the garbage man right now. We basically just have a lot of good roleplayers on our bench. Posey is hte guy who is a notch ahead of everyone else and could be starting on some good teams..
