I know you've all were asked this before, or maybe you've pondered it yourself--who was the better player: Hondo or Bird?

I never saw Hondo play so I can't really say and I know some that did think he's the greatest, but I've always considered Bird the 2nd greatest celtic ever only to Bill Russell. Hondo, Cousy probably 3 and 4. then probably, Mchale, Parish, Cowens

Bird. I would take Bird over Russell tho, but Russell was better...if that makes sense. Cuz Russell was the only one to guard the bigs like Chamberlain.

Bird. Hondo was great, but not in the same league as bird.

I have to go with Bird. I think Bird was the greatest all around player ever to touch a basketball. He just did everything and did it with ease. He made everyone he played with better.

I'm leaning toward Bird as well. Possibly because I haven't really captured Hondo's game in my mind.
Hondo may have scored more points than Bird, but I think if Bird's back held up, he would have been the Celtic's all time leading scorer.

To me, it wasn't the stats but what Bird did that made everyone around him better and how he played the game overall. He just did a little of everything and made everyone around him seem like stars.

As dear as John Havlicek is in my memory, Larry Bird was one notch above and not many other are that close. They both could take a game over and hit the winning bucket. Hondo was so good at leading the team and reflecting the glare from himself. That's the way most studs did it back then. Now you can't find many players, in their realm, that keep the team flowing and keep their mouth shut. It's a different world now. Hondo in heart and Bird in mind... Celtic17 The 17 isn't for our next title.
