Big Al and Big Baby are those special kind of players where you can tell they've what it takes just watching a few moves.
I remember being fascinated by Al Jefferson's potential in his rookie season, and I think we got lucky (again) with that draft move that brought us Big Baby along with Ray Allen. Big Baby's still raw, but with playing time he'll develop into a very strong player. He shoots, he plays D, he's got personality, he's clearly talented and he has a lot of NBA years ahead of him. I just hope that will happen with us 'cause his manager got a two year deal that will make him a restricted FA in 2009.
But there's one thing that scares me more than Big Baby's contract -- that's Doc. His ever present questionable decisions somehow delayed Al's explosion a few years ago, and I'm afraid that could happen again with Davis. When you start a guy like Scal and give him such playing time you slow down the development of guys like Big Baby and Powe. But I really can't remember Scal putting 21 points in a game...

YEah he is definately a key player we need this year. Whether or not that will happen is another story. Also lik eyou said Doc hasnt exactly been the greatest at developing guys and it's not entirely his fault but I definately wonder if Doc is the kind of coach to get the most out of players. We need a 6th man and a big man that can come in and put up points and bang around and big baby is great for that but i just hope its this year.
The good thing about Davis he is different in that he was a seasoned college player. It's also difficult to expect the world from Doc when he is dealing with very young players. i honestly believe Al was not tough enough his first couple years. He could have been brought along differently but I think Al was kind of gunshy and had injury issues as well for a while there. Delonte and Gomes pretty much had usual rookie campaigns and then became the players they are their 2nd year.

I think Baby has his limitations, being a shorter PF with average length arms, but yeah, I think he's an excellent draft pick. Another one of Ainge's fine second round pickups.
Like you mentioned, Baby has a lot of positive things about him, and he's going to be one of those players we'll be rooting for. He's got to use his body and energy to be a brute force in the paint.

I was really shocked to see Davis still on the board at #32, and i was hoping Danny would pick him. I said on draft night, that Davis would be the surprise pick of the 07 draft.
Davis is big, (6'8, 280-295) but he is surprisingly nimble, (in body and mind), his quick feet remind me of J. Bettis, ( former RB for the Pitt.steelers) and he is as strong as an ox. He has the most low post moves that any Celtic has had since K. Mchale ( I know, KG). He shoots for a high % from the field, and the line. I think he can make a living at the foul line, similar to a K. Malone, he has the strength right now, to post up just about anyone in the NBA, and he will only get stronger in an NBA strength & conditioning program. He has great hands to catch the rock in traffic, and knows what to do with it when he does.
Davis also has great court vision and passing skills, for a kid his size. His basketball IQ is also very high. I can see him getting most of the PT off the bench at the 4 and 5, by the end of the season, over Powe. I love Powe's style of play, but, let's face it, he is very limited offensively, and so is Pollard and Scal., and the Celtic's need some low post offence, off the bench. Davis has the potential to be a double, double guy. I can see him putting up 12 - 14 pts. 8 - 10 reb. and 3 - 4 ast. a game, maybe not this year, but IMO, as early as next year. He plays very physical, and he is so strong, when he posts up on the block not many guys are going to be able to keep him out of the paint, so I think teams will be forced to double him down low, and if they do he will make them pay, with his passing skills.
Davis will be a match up nightmare in the playoffs, for other teams, he is to quick for centers and most PF. and to big and strong for SF.
I think Danny will make sure Davis stays a Celtic, for a long time.
Glen Davis will be 1st or 2nd team all rookie this year, if Doc gives him enough PT.

Man, I agree he has all those qualities, but how will he use it if he plays 10-15min and when someone like Scal is ahead of him in the roster? Doc is the problem, and the preseason is showing it.
