There are many times, when I am scouting games, that little known players catch my eye and I start watching them instead of the team's main players. These players may not get drafted, or if they do, it'll be in the second round. But as I'm watching them, I'm thinking that we could use that type of energy, or that type of skill, or that type of athleticism on our team. So here's a thread for all those players, who one day, may end up being a Celtic:
David Noel (UNC, 6'6" 230 lb, SG): This guy is an electric dunker and a player who loves to get out on the fast break. He only gets about 16 minutes off the bench under Roy Williams, but he impresses me when he's out there.
Keith Langford (Kansas, 6'4" SG): This guy has been getting my attention for 3 years now. I originally thought he was taller. He may just play bigger than he is. He's a good player to have on the bench. He can nail the three and he can slither his way in for a layup. Pretty solid defensively. He's not quick and he doesn't get off the ground much. But he seems to come up with the big plays and he's always involved in plays. Got a nose for the basket. My best comparison of him is former Celtics player, Adrian Griffin.
Mark Jackson ( UTA, 6'1" PG): He's not as quick as the average PG and he has no And1 to his game. But if you want solid PG play with no baggage, here's your man. Nothing special about him, other than he helps his team win. Smart player who somehow scores against bigger and quicker players guarding him. Ask Andrew Bogut how much he likes playing with Jackson.
Donnie McGrath (Providence, 6'4" PG): When I watch Providence games, I seem to gravitate my attention to McGrath instead of focusing on Ryan Gomes. McGrath reminds me so much of Memphis Grizzlies PG, Jason Williams in the way they dribble and the way he runs the floor. Seems to be a quality PG who has good court vision and passing skills, but because he plays in a small conference, he doesn't get much attention.
Roger Powell, Jr. (Illinois, 6'6" SG): I like Powell a lot. We don't need more SG's, but I wouldn't mind taking a swipe at him in the second round. He's a tough player who can take it up strong, get bumped, and still throw it down. Muscular SG who can shoot the three and play inside. Solid rebounder.
I'll keep adding names to this list as I see more games and see guys who catch my eye.
