Esteban Batista is close to playing another season in the NBA. Boston could be his destination. That's an information by HoopsHype, but that's only the name of the article. The whole article is on spanish and I can't understand it so that's all I can tell by now. I gave you the whole article, so if somebody understand spanish translate that for the other guys like me. I think that he is way better than Pollard who can only rub the bench. That kid's numbers (because he is 24 and the future is in front of him) in the last season were 1,5ppg 2,3rbg, 0,3apg, 0,2spg. but for only 6 min. per game. He plays position C or a PF (exactly where the Celtics need a guy like that). He is 6'10'' / 268lbs. (that means to me that he is a strong guy who can hustle). Thanks again that's the whole article.

Hey, first post here! I'm new in this blog, i write from Portugal but I bleed for the Celtics for about 15 years now.
Spanish and portuguese aren't quite the same but i sure can translate the general sense ot that article. It says that Batista wants to play in the NBA next season in spite of having offers of some big european clubs like Macabi Telavive, from Israel. He keeps his hopes in the NBA, as he wants to prove his capability in world's best league. The article says, in a vague way, that he COULD be a Boston player next year, and then talks about last year team record and how the Allen and particulary the Garnett signing can boost the team. They also remember how good Batista went in the Americas Pre-Olimpic tournamente (leader in rebounds for the second year in a row).
After reading that article, i think they don't give much specifics... Maybe just a rumour... But, anyway, i agree that he's a young center with potential and that could help us in the paint.

WELCOME to Celtics Green globalceltic! I am glad you found us and look forward to many more posts! Thanks for the translation. This could be like the articles that were surfacing about Sarunas last summer and about Blatt not long ago. The player or someone mentions that they would like to play for the Celtics and suddenly it is in all the articles that they could play for the Celtics. We could use more help in the center position so it isn't completely out of the question either.

I must be some sort of fortune teller.... celticsgreen.proboards18.com/index.cgi?board=0506&action=post&thread=1188093445"e=1188444703&page=2
We still need to replace Wallace/Manuel with a pg and center.Imagine if Perk goes down.Pollard is there for depth not quality.Everybody is saying House is are backup PG.But how often thru his career was he cast in that situation? This team has the chance to be very special.A couple of more tweaks would only help. Esteban Batista looks pretty good, atleast in the first half vs. the USA. He is a Free Agent too and he is only 23 (24 when season starts). He wasnt anything special on the Hawks and I know this is international play, but well Id like him a lot more than Pollard.b
Good signing.

OK DERREN I'll tell you his numbers, 20,8ppg / 12,4rpg (leading the whole Fiba-Americas championship of rpg with 12,4 rpg) / 0,500% shooting and did I tell that he is 24. Anyway I say again that I'll take him over Pollar, Manuel or Wallace without hesitation

"Celtics Target Free Agent"
The Celtics are one of four teams courting the services of Atlanta Hawks free agent Esteban Batista, according to his agent Marc Cornstien.
The Bobcats, Suns and Pacers are targeting a player who made a mark for himself playing for Uruguay at the FIBA Tournament in Las Vegas.
The 24-year old Batista led the tournament in rebounds, averaging 12.4 boards over eight games. He was third in scoring average with 20.8 points per contest. Last season he played 13 games for the Hawks, averaging 1.5 ppg and 2.3 rpg.
Cornstein said he expects the 6-10, 268 pound forward/center to make his decision in the near future.
"I think he will be a good pick for them (Celtics)," Cornstien He's a tough banger who runs the floor. I think he will be a great fit. But all of the teams would be good."

I dont know anything about him but we need another big man and he sounds like a good pickup. We get him and our bench is even deeper.

birdie, I respect your opinion. I just think a lot of people will be surprised with what Pollard will do for the team this year. IMO, every team needs a guy that will come off the bench and be (the ENFORCER) the guy that Will do all the dirty work, like dive on the floor for loose balls, play physical on the other teams big, and just play smart basketball. He has a very high BB. IQ, don't let the silly hair fool you. Pollard will only play 10-15 min. a game anyway, because with all the PF we have KG will play a lot at the 5. So if Perk (knock on wood) does go down, KG can step in and play the center position with no problem, with guys like Davis (who I have said will be the surprise of the 2007 draft), Powe, Scal's and even Posey at the 4.
I would not mind seeing KG, Davis and Posey playing some min. together this year, and I think we will see that quit a bit against certain teams.
I agree though, another true Center (we don't need another PF) would be nice, but I'm not sure Batista is the answer, at least from what I've seen from him, when he was in the NBA.

Well, I haven't actually seen him play, so I can't say much. But his numbers in the FIBA tournament are really good, and if anything, it shows that he can play at a high level at that level of competition. But I scratch my head about this; if he's even remotely good enough to be a serviceable Center in the NBA, why hasn't he done much in Atlanta, and why aren't they trying to hold onto him?

But I scratch my head about this; if he's even remotely good enough to be a serviceable Center in the NBA, why hasn't he done much in Atlanta, and why aren't they trying to hold onto him? While the FIBA tournament had a few solid post players, it is nothing like playing in the NBA. Most of the centers and power forwards from other countries, could not even try out for the UNITED STATES team. It's a lot easier to put up big numbers against the Virgin Islands and the like, than it is against the Heat, Spur's, Sun's, Celtics (even last year with Al & Perk), and on down the line. That is why he did not do better with the Hawk's, and that's why they don't care to re sign him.

Today's Globe said that he has turned down an offer from the Celtics and is considering teams that are more interested in him. Obviously he is going for a team that will give him more playing time or going for more money instead of going where he thinks he will get a ring.
