Sunday 7/26 @ 7:00 PM, EST.
This week's show will feature the newest member of the Boston Celtics media; Marc J. Spears, recently hired by the Boston Globe.
Our first point will surely be to ascertain his exact role with the Globe.
Will he take over Shira Springer's position as beat writer, as has been reported by Boston Sports Media Watch .......
............or will he write features, as he has been doing at the Denver Post ?
One thing is certain, Marc will give us a different perspective than that which is usually projected by that staid, patrician rag.
When is the last time a Globe reporter chronicled the hip hop industry as a possible positive force in society, as Mark did in a Denver Post column from 7/4/07 ?
..........and if you are wondering if Mark can make the transition from Denver and a more national perspective on the NBA, to the parochial Boston sports scene, take this soliloquy on the Yankees, from another Denver Post article from 7/2/07.
{The call for celebration was the completion of a sweep of the storied New York Yankees on June 21. But this wasn't Babe Ruth's, Mickey Mantle's, Reggie Jackson's, Don Mattingly's or a young Derek Jeter's Yankees. This was a sweep of a poor, multimillion-dollar financial investment camouflaged in pinstripes.
..........being a fan of the Yankees now is like thinking Paris Hilton is hot. Sure she's sexy and crazy rich, but she also disappoints you time and time again.}
We may need to feed him a thousand hours or so of Larry Bird video, but I think he's got the rivalry thing down just fine. Cool
Our other guest will be the prescient internet mogul; Ryan McNeill of "Hoops Addict " fame.
Ryan's Toronto Raptors blog has become the standard by which all team sites are measured.
Aside from being a pioneer in the use of podcasts and video clips, Ryan also has published: "Hoops Addict Magazine," a highly literate, informative view, of some of the more intriguing NBA topics, often held far away from the main stream media spotlight.
We will certainly have a fine time with Ryan; continuing our contentious, one-upmanship duel, with our division rival's loudest voice.

{Scott's Shots has confirmed the rumor that the vacant Ron Borges position at the Boston Globe will be filled by an NBA writer, Marc Spears of the Denver Post. The move would seem to indicate that current Celtics beat writer, Shira Springer, will be removed from her Celts' duties and re-assigned within the sports desk (most likely as a sports features writer). Spears accepted the position last Friday and his writing days for the Post are over, although his official last day is September 4th.}

{The famed rapper Nas was wrong. Hip-hop isn't dead. There is a lot of good that can come from it, too. Instead of blasting hip-hop, as an older generation did to rock 'n' roll 50 years ago, society can learn from Run Athletics and use the powerful genre to bring positive messages to today's youth.}
