Had it not been for the trade that brought in Ray Allen, which dominoed into us getting Kevin Garnett, Pierce would have demanded to be traded. If none of this happened, Pierce would have been shopped this summer.
This is the hunch that I had when we broke our future investment for RAllen and KG. I think Ainge had no choice but to make the biggest splash he could, to even sacrifice his most prized possession (Al Jefferson) just to keep his job. If Pierce wanted out and was traded, most of Celtic Nation would have revolted, and that's not what Wyc wants.
It was either keep Pierce happy, or be out of a job, and Ainge elected to keep his job.

I think Ray Allen was a move designed to raise playoff revenue cause all it costed us was Delonte, a bad contract, and a draft pick we couldn't really use. It alone made us squarely a top 4-6 East team alone. There was an element of attracting other guys, but it was a decent trade by itself.

If none of this happen, we would be talking about OJ Mayo or Derrick Rose right now instead we're talking about the possiblity of winning #17. For once, it feels good to have a franchise that's revelant these days. I can only handle so much Red Sox talk before I go nuts.

Too bad we can't be a winning team and still get a chance to add Derrick Rose, Michael Beasley, or OJ Mayo to the team.
Ainge needs to keep on adding young talent to replenish the ones we've lost.

I'm glad we make these moves and kept pierce happy. Pierce is a celtic, he understands what it means to be a celtic, the expectations, and the rewards if you win big in boston.
Every superstar who's played along time without a ring starts to worry if he'll ever get one. Pierce is a competitior and hates to lose, and hated to see the franchise looked upon as a laughing stock. Sometimes in sports you have to force the orginizations hand, or they'll just sit back and you use as the meal ticket. That's what's happening to the lakers. Jerry Buss knows with kobe there he's guranteed a sellout every night, so what incentive is their really to improve the ball club? As long as buss makes his money he's happy.
That's one thing i questioned about garnett when he turned us down the first time. How could he be so loyal to minnesota when they've done little to put a supporting cast around him. He finally saw the light and got outta there. Pierce did the right thing by putting pressure on management.

Not for me, BC!! I love draft time. And with Ainge's eye for talent, we can still hope we'll land gems with late round picks.

It'll be a refreshing change of pace this season when Im thinking about the play-offs at the end of the year instead of the draft. Last year I was checking out nbadraft.net on a regular basis by late december.

And what's wrong with that?!! ;D I'll still be doing that, even if we have no shot to land one of the premier talents at the top of the draft.

And lot of good players were taken late in the 1st round as well. Josh Howard and Tony Parker, just to name a couple.

I'm happy everything worked out the way it did. This summer, which started out horrifically with the May 22 lottery disaster, turned out well with the two blockbuster deals. And the Lakers got screwed which made it even better. That franchise is going to the toilet quickly.
